Changing My LIfe
Sep 10, 2010
Hello Everyone,
It's been nine long months since my weight loss surgery, and to say my life has changed would be a gross understatement.
When I first walked into Dr. Zare's office I weighed a whopping 300 lbs! I'm only 5'2" tall so I was almost as wide as I was tall. My health was in extremely poor shape. I suffered from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, chronic leg cramps, gout, severe sleep apnea and thyroid disease. I was taking 12 medications daily and using an inhaler. For almost a year I had been on 6 liters of oxygen continuously and was hooked to a C-Pap machine at night when I tried to sleep. I couldn't even walk without the help of a quad cane. My cardiologist and pulmonologist had told me that if things didn't change I probably wouldn't live another 5 years. Did I mention I'm only 55 years old! Way to young to be thinking of dying in a matter of years if there was something I could do about it.
I weighed all the pros & cons of having the by-pass surgery and it was definitely a no-brainer. I quickly studied everything I could about the procedure so that I would go into it with my eyes wide open and informed.
I was lucky, I had a wonderful doctor who took the time to explain everything and addressed every question my husband and I came up with. His office staff befriended me in a way I've never experienced in a doctor's office before. Even almost a year later I still feel comfortable in picking up the phone and calling them if I have questions or concerns.
I had my surgery Dec 22nd last year and today I weighed in at the doctor's office at 172 lbs and I'm still losing. I've followed their recommended diet and supplementary programs and each follow-up visit my blood-work has been perfect. My health has done a drastic 180! The only pills I take now are several vitamins a day, a thyroid and a cholesterol pill and that's it! My blood pressure dropped almost immedietely after surgery and I was taking 2 different blood pressure pills daily. I no longer have leg cramps, I'm no longer on oxygen and I don't need a cane to walk with. I feel like a whole new person and my energy leven has quadrupled if not more.
And for those of us who are vain (I'm guilty) I've gone from a size 48 jeans to a size 14, and from a 5X shirt to an XL - you can't imagine the thrill of being able to just walk into Walmart and buy a simple t-shirt when you've never been able to do it before.
I'd recommend this surgery to anyone who wants to improve their lifestyle, their health and their happiness and love life. Good health is truely the answer to all major questions in your life. I'm a writer of romantic fiction, and I've had the energy and stamina to get two books published in the past six months with my added energy levels and increased cognitive functions.
That's about all I can say about this surgery except, do it for yourself, not for anyone else. You'll never regret it!
Thanks,
Diane
