Optifast
Mar 06, 2011
I'm on day 2 of OPTIFAST and don't want to jinx it, but, really so far so good!!
I've been eating some jello as well and today I had chicken broth. Funny how that would taste so good...salty instead of everything else being sweet.
I made myself a count down chart (shocking, I know-who loves a list more than me). Twenty seven days of OPTIFAST...25 to go...surgery is just around the corner.
Wonder how much weight I will drop with the 4 weeks of OPTIFAST??
Wait and see...I'm too heavy for my scale right now...need to be down 15lbs for it to weigh me. Hopefully in 2 weeks I will be able to use the scale and start keeping track.
Going to do my before pics today...and my measurements. For my official weight, I am going with what the scale said at the hospital on Friday for my pre op...ready???...345 lbs!!!
Stay tuned...

Pre-op appt was...

Great. A long day, but I had a chance to read a bunch of my book...kind of a treat!!
I saw a nurse, doctor #1, endocrinologist #1, lab tech, endocrinologist #2, ECG tech and an anesthetist. Everyone was so friendly and positive. I've had other surgeries and the pre op stuff is usually an embarassing appointment because my weight is always an issue...this time the weight is THE issue. No one gave me grief or a hard time about the size of me...it was just accepted and the plan for my surgery came together.
My starting weight was 345 pounds. OPTIFAST starts tomorrow and that number is on it's way down...down...down!!

Pre-Op app't tomorrow

Surgery is only 4 weeks away...28 days til the new me begins to emerge...
Tomorrow I go for a full day at St Mikes for my pre op everything-blood work, ECG, meet with the endocrinologist and the anesthetist. I'm excited!! Then on Saturday OPTIFAST starts...26 days of that...104 drinks/shakes/whatever it turns into to go!!.
Reading one of the posts tonight, a question posed-what do you miss about pre-wls?? From this side of the bench, I can't imagine I will miss anything...not the tiredness, not the pain/aching of feet and joints, not the sweating, certainly not the size and shape of my body...I really only see this as a opportunity to GAIN-my health, my fitness, my energy, my fun with my husband and kids, more time living life instead of just existing in this life. Oh, and some great clothes...it's been at least 6 months since I bought something new to wear...can't wait til EVERYTHING I OWN doesn't fit anymore!!
Only 28 more sleeps to go...

Just last week I was told it would be 2-3 months away...now its 4 weeks of OPTIFAST starting next week and I'll be on the other side by April 1...no foolin!!!!
I'm so excited...wonder if there will be much sleeping tonight??? There are probably several lists I should be making...getting stuff prepared...thinking about the new me!!

Well, things did not go as well as I had hoped on Friday...appt with the surgeon. I did get consented-good part...but will be waiting 2 - 3 months for surgery-not the best. Also, 4 weeks of OPTIFAST instead of the 3 I thought I would have to take.
I was feeling very disappointed last night, but I realize that this time I can use to become the best prepared that I can be.
So, I will continue to sip water thru the day, eat slowly, chew chew chew, exercise and in general get my head around the head hunger and food triggers. Lots of work to do and some time to do it...
looking for advice

Hi All
I'm new to Obesity.com and I'm really hoping for a little advice. I am seeing my surgeon on Friday, at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Ontario. He is going to set a surgery date for me. Good news, right?? Seems so, but I've been thinking about a plan B. I just don't know which is the way to go.
Plan A-surgery in 4-6 weeks...as soon as it is booked...take 6 weeks off work (using all of my sick time from work), return to work and hope for the best...
Plan B-postpone surgery til late May or early June...take take 7 weeks sick time (will have accumulated to that by then) and additional 5 weeks vacation time...will be off/at home for 12 weeks with the opportunity to get into a good routine of exercise and eating...focusing on me, not trying to get all this other stuff right when I'm working.
This is not about being unprepared or scared for surgery immediately...I just don't know if plan A is best because it gets me into reality more quickly, as well as losing the weight sooner or plan B which seems a little gentler in terms of easing into this new way of life for me and getting that sorted out before returning to work.
Anyone with any advice would be well appreciated. I'm hoping this is the right place to post something like this.
Thanks
Dawn
