Anyone else get fired when telling about their surgery!!

I would love some support from anyone else who dealt with this issue. I was fired a week after telling and have retained a lawyer but my surgery is next week. My benefits and short term disability will supposedly be covered but.... this is no way to enter in to this adventure.
