Post Op Week 1

Jun 24, 2013

Wow, can't believe I'm finally sleeved. My surgery was on June 17, 2013 and I ended up having complications. My sleeve was totally obstructed after surgery. Nothing was getting through, not even my saliva! I ended up having a GI tube inserted through my nose(NOT FUN!) check out my YOUTUBE blog for full details (Cyndi Gail). I was released on Friday June 21st so I stayed in 2 extra days. I was sent home with a IV pik line. So I have been giving myself 1 liter of sodium chloride each day by IV. BUT here's the good news: my sleeve (her name is Sheba) is working just fine now! I have been getting in 30+ grams of protein each day and no nausea or vomiting like the first 3 days of my hospital stay! I am on clear and full liquids. I am praying that I can have this IV removed at my Thursday appointment. The swelling in my stomach was down drastically this morning. I am still feeling some pain at the site where my drain was inserted. I think I will get some liquid Tylenol because I bet I don't really need Hydrocodone to cope with what I'm feeling.

No regrets!

Pre Op Surgery appointment at the hospital

May 23, 2013

It's getting real OH family!! I went to my pre op appointment today. I had to do paperwork of course but it went fairly quick. Then I met with the nurse/coordinator and she was so pleasant! I had a great experience and she really took her time to make sure I left with no unanswered questions. She cheered me on as the scale confirmed my 6 pound weight loss!! It wasn't as intense as I had thought. She asked medical history questions and went over what to expect upon arriving and checking in, before and after the surgery down to explaining that I should take advantage of the infamous pain pump! Lol...most of what she said, I knew from OH and Internet research. She said bariatric surgery patients are always most educated. GO US!!! Lastly she drew a small vial of blood and that was it. My surgery time is 4:30 pm so she said I will probably have to stay 2 nights and leave on the morning of the 3rd day.  I wish it were earlier in the day but then again, who cares?? Just so I get it done!!

APPROVED! Happy :) and Sad :(

Apr 30, 2013

Hey, Hey, Hey!!! I had my endoscopy on 4/22/13 which was a BREEZE! My throat was sore for 2 days but other than that I don't even know I had anything done. All of my paperwork was submitted on Friday, April 27th and I received a call from my surgeon's nurse today that I was approved. I am sad because the first available surgery date is AUGUST 12, 2013. I was hoping to have my surgery in June/July since I am a teacher plus my son is going to basic training and I need to fly to Missouri for his graduation on August 23rd. CUTTING IT CLOSE! I would have liked the summer to recover. The nurse said that I can call every 10 to 15 days to see if there are any cancelations.

AND.....who knew there were still so many more appointments? Here's what I will have to do leading to surgery:

  1. July 16:  Mental Preparedness appointment
  2. July 22:  Bone Density Test
  3. July 22:  Diet Class
  4. July 25:  Pre-surgery appointment with surgeon
  5. July 29:  Begin liquid diet
  6. TBD:  Appointment to do lab with Anesthesiologist
  7. August 12: Surgery

I am thankful that I at least know that it's coming but I still can't help but wish it was sooner. Did I mention that AUGUST 12th is my WEDDING ANNIVERSARY?????

Psych Evaluation

Apr 12, 2013

Good news, my endoscopy has been moved up to April 22nd! I had my psyche eval today. It was very thorough. I was basically asked questions for an hour and then I had to take a 100+ questionnaire, complete a 2nd 19 question questionnaire and a form that was the same as the NUT forms. The total visit took 2 hours. She said she will have the report ready in 5 days. I have already increased my protein and water intake. I've been walking a mile twice a day and low and behold, I've lost 5 pounds this week! Yay me!

Nutritionist Visit

Apr 09, 2013

4/9/13

i visited with my nutritionist today. I was very pleased with her and enjoyed her conversation. I haven't liked nutritionist in the past because they would tell me stuff I already read on the Internet. I had one to just print info straight from the Internet. I am going to go ahead and start experimenting with different protein supplements and try to increase my protein intake to at least 70 grams per day. I meet with the Psychologist on Friday!

Pre diabetes and vitamin D

Mar 23, 2013

Well, I went on a 3 day field trip with my 5th grade daughter and came back to alarming news. My lab results show that I have developed pre diabetes and I have a deficiency of Vitamin D. My CRP levels are off as well. This is more reason for me to move forward with WLS and take control!
