When I was a young child, I was small and anemic. I had to have iron shots for a while because of it. As I grew into an older child, my preference went from being outside and playing with my brother to sitting in my room and listening to music or watching T.V. Around 12 years old, I started my first diet- Weight Watchers. When I entered into high school I was normal weight and by graduation wore a size 8. No problems! Got married, had my first child, and voilia! 30 pounds too much. Then that 30 became 60 and I got pregnant again. After the second child, I was 100 pounds overweight. I went on a liquid protein diet through a local hospital and lost 100 pounds and guess what? Got pregnant again. After having three sons in 10 years, my weight had gone up and down a couple or three times. This time period began the last 21 years of my life of yo-yo dieting. I've been up and down the scale 100 pounds about 4 times with numerous (too many to count) drops of 50 pounds or so but would always gain back. My health began to deteriorate about 10 years ago when I developed type 2 diabetes. I was able to get it under control after about a year and stayed off medication for pretty much the last 9 years until last fall when my oldest son broke his back in a motorcycle accident. That's when my blood sugar soared and I've been on medication since then trying to get it back down. I'm pretty well controlled but on two blood sugar meds now. I heard about the 60 Minutes program regarding bariatric surgery and how RNY was reversing diabetes so I was leaning toward that procedure until I got on this website and really started researching the different surgery types. I also have pretty severe arthritis and had to have my left hip replaced almost 2 years ago. This fact made me decide on the sleeve instead of rny. I set my date for surgery for Monday, July 14th and am pretty much at peace to get this journey going finally in the permanent direction of normal (well as normal as I can get).
