Apologies for not posting in a while
Jun 22, 2010
My Roux-En-Y surgery was done on May 10, 2010. The surgery went well and I was home 2 days later. So far I am down a total of 61 lbs. AMAZING!
It has not been to bad, but now that I am starting to eat more solid foods and this has been a challenge. Some things agree with me and others not so much. I am starting to find that of food is overcooked it makes me sick....the joys of learning my new stomach.
I am very pleased with the weight loss and thankful for all of the support I have received from my partner, friends, and family thus far.
Life is good and just keeps getting better.

Step 3 & 4 & 5....DONE....WOO HOO
Feb 09, 2010
ok so it has been a while since i have posted anything...my fault.....work, my partner, and trying to work on my doctoral degree all keep me busy.....but somewhere in all that time i have managed to go from 307 lbs to 281.5 lbs.....25.5 lbs gone in 5 months....and i havent had the surgery yet.....just made some changes to how I eat.
Visit 5 today for the 6 month med managed weight loss.....things are looking good.....I have to start practicing eating smaller bites....my assingment (and yes i took it) go get a cocktail fork and knife and start to use it with my non dominant hand to cut and eat food.
So tonight I did as told......WOW...it slowed me down significantly in my eating....hopefully this will help to take some more weight off.
One more month folks of med managed weight loss...my last appointment is on March 2, 2010 and then we send in the packet to the insurance company (aetna).
Wish me good luck.

Step 2.....Done....
Nov 07, 2009
OK so this past Wednesday, 11/04/2009, was a day of fun and excitement at Scottsdale Barriatric.
7am - Met with the psychologist...he says that I am 'psychologically healthy'....HOORAH!!! and WHO KNEW????
9am - Met with the surgeon - Dr. Kurt Sprunger, MD. First impression - he seems like good guy and answered all the questions that I had at the time....Is going to conference call with my PCP about my HIV status, but he doesn't feel that this is going to be a major hurdle.
10am - Met with the dietitian. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I have to lose 13 lbs. before surgery in Spring 2010. This is very do-able. I have to start now with new ways of eating....at least i have 6 months to practice
1030am - Met with the exercise physiologist. We talked about what i do and don't do....Then she handed me a pedometer and told me to start working toward 10000 steps per day.
11am - Met with the financial people. OK not too scary here either. I will have a better idea of how much this is going to cost me once we get into 2010 and my new insurance benefits kick in.
So that is it for now....It was a long, information packed day. And since the day of the appointment 2 of the 13 lbs. are GONE! Maybe it was water but it is going in the right direction.

Step 1... Done.....
Oct 28, 2009
I had my first appt today with Scottsdale Bariatric.....I have been pondering this step for quite some time and after today, I must say that I feel much better about this whole process.
I have to do a 6 month weight loss program first (required by my insurance - Aetna). I think this will give me some time to really adjust how I eat. Dr. Emershad, MD is supervising this part of the process.....She answered all my questions with ease and made me feel confident that I can make this process a success.
Well i am going to do my best to keep this blog up.....and I welcome any feedback or comments.
