I have always been one of the big girls. From grade school to now. My weight has increased quietly and steadily to where it is today (300 lbs). I don't really have a lot of medical issued associated with being overweight, but i don't think they are far around the corner. The last couple of time i have had my blood pressure checked it has been a little high and my knees are starting to really hurt when i am going up stairs or getting up and down. Just getting off the floor is a chore.
I had heard of people having weightloss surgery but had always thought it was something i could never do or afford. But considering all of the money i have spent on diets and excercise equipment, i could have probably paid for it a couple of times over.
This past August, at a family reunion, we had taken some family pictures. I always tried to be the one behind the camera, not infront of it. When i looked at the pictures, i almost didn't recognize myself. I try to avoid mirrors because you can actually see what you look like. It was a rude awakening. I decided then and there that i had to do something serious and soon. I am only 42 and a grandma of 4 (soon to be 5). I want to be able to go do fun things with my grandkids and not be the one sitting on the sidelines because i am too big or out of shape to participate. I am also married to the most wonderful and supportive guy i know and we want to go and do lost of exploring and have some adventures. We recently bought a motorcycle and we are planning lots of trips.
I attended Dr. Snyder's seminar on WLS onAugust 30th. It was the most amazing thing i have every been too. I realized there that i was not the only one out there struggling with my weight. It was an eyeopener. What i found so reassuring was that many of Dr. Snyder's employees had had one type or the other of WLS. They know what i will be going through. When we had our initial visit with the dr, we both left feeling like we had known him for years. He was so warm and caring and understanding. You could tell this was something he really has a passion for.
Well i am only 2 weeks out now and i am so excited. I really have no fears about what is to come. I know it won't be easy but will be so worth it in the end. I just keep thinking about the things i will be able to do afterh i loose my weight. That is my motivation.
