Slowed down, but moving fast again!!!!!!!!
Feb 17, 2008
and today 2/16/08 (one week and a day) has been interesting. I have discovered that recovery time varies from person to person and I think from day to day. Although I have been up and around since day one of my surgery( I walked the halls at the hospital walked around the house, short trips to the store etc...), I was not ready for a full day of activites. I teach school ( i had not been back to work) and I tutored a group of kids, passed out pizza, drove my own children to several activities, went inside my friends house (two people and sat down), I came home after being out from 8:15a - 7:00p and I was in pain. I was a little tired, but my port incision hurt like the dickens
. It had never hurt that much, not even after surgery!!!!!!!!!!! I advise everyone to truly take it easy. I thought I was ready for a day out, but I was not. I am staying home for the next two days (ok, i'll try
). But this I do promise to do only one activity at a time and not to stay out for more than four hours at a time for at least another week. By the way I really feel this port is that because it is still sore?
Resting

I fell pretty good and I think I over did it yesterday. I went to two stores did a little shopping and had no problems. Last night I needed to take pain meds ( I do not use them during the day) and I had slight discomfort. I must rememember that I did have major surgery and I am less than one week out. It is very important to slow down and take care of myself. I am glad I have not returned to work.
Surgery and Recovery

My surgery went very well. The pain was very manageable. In fact I had very little pain, gas or discomfort. I do not have a high tolerance for pain so I was very pleased. I have five incisions and the only what that hurts is the port incision. That one also looks swollen; however I am less than 72 hours out of surgery. (written 2/10/08) I have followed all of the directions that my doctor has set forth before and after surgery so it has been uneventful. I am very happy that this was the outcome for me. I hope that this encourages others who are nervous about the pain and the surgery. It went well for me. I recommend research everything from your doctor to the facility and the aftercare. Know what is expected of you and do it! I can’t tell you what will happen a week or a year from now I can tell you that thus far it’s been great. Took a photo of me in the hospital hope to upload.
My first blog

This is the first time that I've written in a public forum, but I need to vent. I would like to have the lap band surgery but I am so nervous about it being another failed weight loss attempt. So I am hoping that someone can give me insight into the procedure. In addition, I do not want to have any other type of surgery because of personal reasons. If the lap band is not sucessful than I would rather remain as I am. I do not want to go through all of this just to still be fat.
With that being said I am going through all of the steps to fullfill this goal. I have to lose 35 pounds before they will schedule the surgery. I have lost four pounds to date ( in two weeks).
