As I recently read on another Bandster's profile, my Life Story is far more interesting than my weight story, but here goes.

I was not overweight as a child.  As a matter of fact, in 4th grade, my teacher called my mother, concerned that I was anorexic!  If only she could have seen me eat she would have known, LOL!  Truth is I was active, I was a dancer, and I was growing like crazy.  When I was 13, I developed problems with my knees and had to stop dancing so much.  This is also about the time I stopped growing an inch a month, but I never stopped eating.  In high school I was about a 14 and I thought I was fat.  In college I was about a 16/18 and I thought I was fat.

What I would give to be "fat" like that right now.

I continued gaining weight slowly.  I married a man who eats about a gazillion calories a day - in every concievable format - and never gains weight.  But I did.  Two children later, I'm a healthy 38-year old who is very overweight.

I have a family member who went through lap-band surgery and she's done an amazing job with it.  Lost ALL her excess weight and looks and feels fantastic.  I have many other family members who are overweight and have high blood pressure, joint problems, heart problems, diabetes abounds on both sides of my family.  Now recent studies suggest links between excess weight and certain types of cancer.  My father recently underwent long and horrible treatment for cancer, plus has non-healing diabetic foot issues.  The cancer treatment caused him to lose 100 lbs and his diabetes went away.  I looked at my father and thought:  There's my future if I don't do something about this now.

So here I am.  I'm scheduled for the Realize band in 4 days and I'm very excited.  I will make this work for me.  I have family support, a loving and supportive husband and friends, and a whole entire network of lap band people, both online and in support groups, to guide me and help keep me on track.  This is the beginning of a new life.

Thanks for reading!
