Finaly saw the doctor
Apr 11, 2007
Hoorah, I finally got an appointment and went to the doctor's office yesterday. I was very pleased with this doctor. His last comment to me was "it will be a pleasure to help you."
By way of background information, I have been through dramatic weight loss before. In 1975, I went on the Atkins diet and lost 120 lbs. I bounced off my goal weight of 115 and found it to be very unreasonable to maintain. I settled between 125 and 130; I am 5'3" tall. I love to eat, and I hate to exercise.
Three years later, I married and after another 3.5 years, I began having children. With each birth, I did not loose weight. By the time I was divorced 13 years later, I was very very overweight.
Although I have lost as much as 60 lbs following a high protein diet, I am not able to maintain that loss. Perhaps I exhaust all my willpower just loosing the weight and then have nothing left for maintenance.
So here I am today; getting older and finding it harder to stop from gaining. It seems since menopause that my weight has RE-DISTRIBUTED ITSELF, to a location all-up-front. You can imagine how much I hate that and buying clothes is just a miserable experience. Everything fits except my stomach area.
Enough is Enough! I am doing something about it Now!
A week ago I had surgery for another medical issue which I have suffered with for over 20 years. My urologist deems the procedure a success and I agree. Now I will be able to walk and do other exercise without the complications and misery of the former condition.
Today, I am searching for a mental health professional to have the required testing performed to meet the bariatric surgery requirements. In the interim, my surgeon's office is preparing to send everything I have submitted, for insurance approval.
Within two weeks, I will begin inquiring about my approval status. I do not doubt I will be approved, but waiting is still difficult.

Waiting for the infamous BLUE FOLDER
Mar 22, 2007
Two days ago I attended an informational meeting. Yesterday, I called the Bariatic Surgeon's office and requested the initial paperwork.
I am watching my mailbox diligently. The moment I receive the blue folder, I will be ready, pen in hand. My plan is to hand deliver the paperwork asap to the surgeon's office and get this ball rolling as quickly as possible.
Everything I have read thus far, indicates that my insurance should approve me and do it very quickly. I do know that there is no exclusion for the lap band procedure or gastric bypass. Thank you Dell, Inc.
At the moment, I have a urological procedure scheduled for surgery, so I do have something to look forward to in the interim. This procedure will eliminate an uncomfortable problem that is worsened by excess weight. Within two weeks that condition should be remedied and I will be moving forward to dealing with my weight issue.
