Phillip Hornbostel

"I have not yet met with Dr. Hornbostel--My appointment is scheduled for April 7. A woman in my gastric bypass support group at Fort Leonard Wood is having her surgery by Dr. Hornbostel next Friday (March 21), and she is a big fan of him. She told me he spent almost an hour with her, answering every single one of her questions. I will update as soon as I meet him. 4/7/03 I met with Dr. Hornbostel today, and I would like to record my impressions: My first impression of the office and the staff is "professional." The office is very clean, well decorated, and homey looking--a fish tank in the middle of the waiting room, lots of oak trim, etc. The chairs had arms, but were wide enough for my bum plus extra, and there were also 4 or 5 loveseats, which could accomodate larger people. The bathroom is unisex, and is a rather large room. The staff called me by my first name, and were extremely pleasant. I was weighed and my height measured, then I was escorted to an exam room, where I was given two booklets to look over. Dr. Hornbostel came in after about 5 minutes, introduced himself, and we began. He used one of the booklets to explain the two surgeries he performs, and asked me if I was leaning one way or the other. He addressed the risks of leakage and blood clots, and explained the steps they take to prevent both. He talked about aftercare, but we did not get into details. I asked him to compare the Lap RNY to the old intestinal bypass my Mother had back in the 70's, and he explained it very well, again using the brochure. Dr. Hornbostel has a great "bedside manner," and made me feel extremely comfortable. "
