Surgery and One Week

Jan 03, 2008

A week ago today I underwent lap RNY. Although the doc said that my case was difficult and took an hour longer than normal. All went well. I can say that I had my surgery Thursday around noon. By that night I was hooked up to the morphine drip and by Saturday morning the nurses shut it off because I wasn't using it enough. I did continue with a regime of liquid Tylenol and Ibuprofen until Tuesday, but have not had anything since then. It was the best thing ever getting to come home. Although I had a couple of great nurses, the overall hospital experience leaves a little to be desired. I think in the 3 days I was in I got about 3 hrs of sleep. It was ridiculous and not at all helpful in the healing process. As soon as I got the IVs out of my hands and a full nights sleep I felt like a completely different person!

Today I went in and got my drain and staples taken out. They said that the area will continue to leak for another week or so but the other incisions will all be healed by then so that will be the only one to worry about. (There were 5 small ones about 5mm each and the larger one with the drain was 2 cm)
I am a bit sorer now in the area where my drain was removed than I was before, but I am sure that will be better by tomorrow.
The most important exciting news is that I lost 16 lbs in one week!! How sweet was that after everything that I have been through in these short seven days!!
Well, that is all for now.
