I have always been chubby. I had finally started to lose weight in the 8th grade. By Senior year of high school I was 5' 11" and 160 pounds, not bad . Then I got Juvenile RA in my left Iris. The doctors put me on Prednisone. I only ate low calorie food to try & maintain my weight. It didn't work, I gained 65 pounds and got so bloated that I had the moon face from the prednisone. Ever since then I've had trouble keeping the weight off. Everytime I would lose the weight my eye problem (RA) would come out of remission, I'd be put back on the prednisone and the weight came back. Then after college, I found out that I have PCOS. Then I became diabetic at 26 years old. Ironically I was at a skinny phase. I had dieted to lose the weight and after I lost it I was diabetic. Not before when I was fat, but afterwards. Genetics are a crazy thing.
So far thanks to the gastric bypass, I'm off of humalog and am only taking Lantus 20 units a day (down from 100 units). I'm on one blood pressure pill, still on the thyroid pill and the Allegra. I feel better, more energy. I enjoy exercise now and have a personal trainer. I found out that my heart is in excellent shape.
So far the eye has been fine. I am glad that I did this.
