Well I did go see Dr. Nigh last Thursday. He said he is willing to try and do the surgery. He will do an open RNY because he wants to make sure he can see around really good when he gets in there. Now it has been a week and I still have not heard anything. It is my understanding that Mplan first gives you an approval to see the surgeon, then the surgeon has to find you a candidate for WLS, which he did. Then the surgeon submits his recommendation to ins. and then ins should give the final approval. This waiting around is hell. I have been so nervous. I did call the surgeon's office today and they told me it usually takes about two weeks before I will hear anything. I just wish I had a surgery date, a final approval, something...I am not a very patient person. This wait is pure agony. Hopefully I will hear something soon and then I will update. Thanks for all the support and information that is shared on this site.

Hi, After approx. 3 years I finally received approval from my insurance to go and talk to a surgeon. I have chose Dr. Nigh because I work at the same hospital as him and have only heard great things about him. I had my phsyc evaluation on Tuesday and everything seemed to go fine. Thursday I will see Dr. Nigh. I am hoping that everything will be fine. I have had prior fundoplication surgery where they wrap the upper part of your stomach around your esophagus. They usually do this because of reflux disease, but they did mine because of a para hiatal hernia. So in order to do the RNY they would have to take down the fundoplication and then make the pouch. This can make things more complicated and put me at more risk; however, I have all the confidence in the world in my surgeon. I did speak to him a couple of years ago and he said it is possible, it would just depend on the amount of scar tissue I have. I will ask him Thursday if he gets in there and sees that it will be to risky, is it possible to do a vbg or another procedure? Anyway, I am hoping that nothing will go wrong. I have waited so long and fought to hard to get to this point. Please keep me in your prayers that everything will go alright. I will post again after I talk to Dr. Nigh
