I have been overweight since I was in 7th Grade. At that point in my life I had stopped Ice Skating and Ballet. I've always fluctuated between 200-220lbs. When I reached my mid 20's I just stopped weighing myself because it would just make me sad. I had started researching gastric bypass when I was 23 or so when I heard of Carnie Wilson's story. My parents discouraged me for fear of something bad happening. So I put it in the back of my head. As my 30th birthday approached which is Sept 21, my parents in July 2006 offered to pay for my surgery. Of course I said yes. The reason why I wanted to do the surgery is due to fertility reason. My husband and I have been trying for 2 years, and the reason being is my being overweight unable to ovulate regularly. I began researching again for a local doctor. I spoke with a co-worker who had LAP RNY done a year ago and she recommended Dr. Oliak. I contacted his office right away and went to the orientation. From there the ball began rolling. I went on a 2 week vacation to Indonesia as soon as I got back I had an appointment for the initial consultation, psych test and I got to speak with the nutrtionists. I then got my surgery date of September 27, 2006. I couldn't believe it, I had 3 weeks until I got a new start.
The day or surgery I was fine, I wasn't scared or anything, but I was excited. My surgery was scheduled for 1:30p. There were complications with the patient before me and I ended up having surgery around 6p. I got into the Operationg Room, spoke with Dr.Barnes the anesthesiologists for less than 5 minutes and I was knocked out. I remember getting out of the OR and my dad kissing me on the cheek, then I knocked out again and woke up the next day. The next day I started to walk in the late afternoon, I took the binder off immediately because it was itching. I went in for surgery on Wed Sept 27, on Thurs Sept 28 I was able to *toot* in the late evening and what a relief. Fri Sept 29 I got to go home which was a relief. I got home and to my surprise out of the hospital I had lost 16lbs.
