home from surgery

Feb 06, 2010

So the day finally came and went!  I am six days post op and feeling great.  The only issues I have had is one GAS and two I am unable to tolerate cold liquids!  I am just so thankful that I figured out what was causing all the pain!  I have my first followup appointment on the 11th and I am so excited.  I must admit I have already been trying on some of my smaller clothes and they fit:) Dr. Bour's staff does such a wonderful job preparing his patients for this lifestyle change and I must say that there was nothing that was a surprise.  The care I received at Hillcrest Hospital was top notch.

So I have decided that since we are going to be moving back to Charleston in a few months to go to MUSC for my WLS.  I attended their informational session and have all the paperwork to fill out :) Today, I made all the phone calls to gather my medical record and I will be picking them up when I go to Charleston next week.  Once I get the paperwork done I mail it in and it begins.  I am glad to finally get going.  I have been sitting idle for weeks trying to figure out what to do.  I just decided you know what I am going to start and I'll deal with stuff as it happens.  You can't plan everything ...I didn't plan to gain all this weight..LOL

Since we have attended the WLS seminar at Dr. Bour's office we have been trying to figure out how in the world we could afford to get both of us started. We need about $6600 out of pocket  to get the surgery done.  We have decided I will go first then hubby.  So, to get us both going we have to put $1000 down then make payments.  The balance has to be paid prior to surgery.  So, we found out we can use our Health Savings account.  We will get the money upfront and then it will be deducted pretax weekly over the year.  I am so excited. We have made so many sacrifices to stay out of debt.  I feel so blessed to be able to do this without going into debt!  So far everyone that I have told of my intentions has been so supportive and happy for me.  Otherwise loving the Fall weather...it is my favorite time of year!

So tonight was DS 5th birthday!  It is hard to believe he has been around that long.  When I really think about his age though I realize DH and I sometimes forget he is 5.  We do expect a lot out of him b/c he is so mature and smart.  Maybe we need to cut him a little slack, he really is such a good kid.  I was so dissappointed that he didn't make it into 4 year old kindergarten, I really thought it would hurt him.  Now, I am glad we have this year and I realize it will benefit him in the long run.  One week until our WLS seminar I am so excited and can't stay away from these boards.  I am addicted to reading everyone's stories.  I can't believe I am actually making posts on this board.  I have come to OH on and off for the past 4 years, dreaming about getting WLS:)

Where to begin...I think I know!

On September 2nd I called and reserved a spot for me and DH for the WLS seminar with Dr. Bour office! We will be going Sept. 25 @ 5:45!  This is the first of many appt's I am sure.  I have done so much research but still have many questions about the process of getting to the surgery date.
