Update

Oct 19, 2009

I am writing an update today because I need to share the lows as well as the highs thru my journey. I don't want to write these things because I want everything to be just fine but that is not reality and I have to share this as part of my turn around process.

Immediately after the OH event in August, I started testing the waters more and more. I have since discovered that there isn't anything that I can't have. I do not have dumping syndrome, just indigestion when I eat something with alot of sugar. I do not believe that I have done any damage to my pouch because I still eat small meals and I stop when I feel full. However, I did start snacking alot more so I was eating alot more often. And what I had been choosing to snack on helped me put back on 5 lbs in just two months. That is not ok....our biggest fears include revisiting our old habits and that is exactly what I started to do.

After seeking help from some of my friends, and made some new friends, I am back on track. I am eating less often, making better choices and back to the gym more consistently. I am going to take a belly dancing class starting next month, something I NEVER thought I would do.

So, I thank all of you for your words of encouragement. I lost a pound last week and am regaining my confidence to continue.

Progress

May 27, 2009

I had RNY not quite 8  months ago and have lost a total of about 88lbs. I could not be happier with the progress.
When I was preparing for my surgery, I would hike up Mt. Peak in Enumclaw. I use to have to stop numerous times to catch my breath or because my legs were burning. On Monday, I not only climbed Mt. Peak once but when I got to the bottom, I decided I could do it again, so I did. I am paying for it now because I am sore but I never thought that was a goal that was close to becoming reality.
The Lord has been very close to me. I have not had any complications or problems with surgery or recovery. I know not everyone has been as blessed. When asked if I would do it again, I would not hesitate to say YES!

If this helps anyone with their fears of having surgery or their recovery......................

My biggest concern was going back to my old eating habits just like I did after all the other diets. I still have a long way to go with self control but I think I am ok with the understanding that I can eat small portions because it is painful if I dont. You accept it and no matter how good it tastes, I am ok with saying, "I am full". I dont remember ever saying that before. I would be eating a large lunch at a fast food restaurant wondering what was for dinner.
I enjoy shopping of course but I also enjoy exercising now. I go to Zumba three times a week and love it!

I hope I can be an encouragement as many other people have been to me.

Thank you to everyone,

Char
