Good News! I just spoke with Lew, Cindy's husband. As it turns out she did not have pneumonia after all. They opted to keep Cindy on the vent post-op as a precaution to protect her airway and be sure she was well oxygenated and having adequate pain control, with a goal of not getting post-op pneumonia. Sometimes people develop pneumonia or atelectasis, from not breathing deeply enough post-op. So AMOS SIBS: stop smoking if you do, deep breathe and use your incentive spirometer (breathing gizmo with the tube and ball) to keep your lungs inflated!!!
Lew said they could have possibly taken Cindy off the vent last night but wanted to be sure her pain was controlled. They are planning on extubating her this morning. Thank goodness!!
The second surgery was also done laproscopically, thru the same incisions as the original procedure so her healing time should be as quick as we initially expected.
All I can say is, always expect things to go smoothly but know that sometimes things happen...thank God for good doctors and nurses and the best healthcare in the world, right here in the USA...Diane N
