RIP Mr. Guy.

Feb 09, 2008

Michael Anthony succumbed to SIDS on 2/8/2008. I now have 2 little angel grandbabies awaiting me in heaven and my brother is there to watch over them until I get there.

One more time................

Dec 22, 2007

I need to make another trip to the OR after the holidays to correct the "redundant pouch" left behind after my revision. Apparently my gi tract is like a candy cane (that's how my dr put it anyway) and the hook is a small pouch off the main pouch that food keeps getting caught in. this causes me pain almost every time I eat and frequently I don't keep things down....nice huh? Dr. Diamond thinks (and I pray) this is my last surgery. I told him this time he should just leave in a zipper...................just in case. lol.

Another surgery.

Aug 17, 2007

I had been having problems with nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain sice mid July, shortly after Jalina's death. I went to the ER one night when it was so bad I thought I was going to die. A CT scan was done which was "normal" according to the Dr on duty. After some pain meds I was sent home. I spoke to my surgeon the next day and he said since the report was normal to just keep an eye on things. I kept having trouble on and off- not horrible but just not feeling well. Finally on Aug 6 my surgeon ordered another CT and said to see him the next day. I did. Aug 7th he told me my CT was "very concerning" and that he had pulled the actual film of the CT from July and was extremely upset to see it was NOT at all normal but that I had a near complete bowle obstruction and needed surgery "that night". The next morning I was in the OR for a lap repair of an internal hernia, lysis of adhesions (scars) and a release of a bowel obstruction.
I am more than a little frustrated with the ER since this could have been fixed a month ago instead of my living on pain meds and feeling crappy.
Oh well.
I am on the mend now-once and for all I hope.
I am now at 142 pounds- 4 pounds below goal.

Jalina's gifts.

Jul 06, 2007

This afternoon we were told by the transplant team coordinator at Children's hospital in Oakland that little Jalina's organs were almost perfect matches for at least 7 little ones (so far) awaiting life- saving transplants in California. Those babies have been called to their hospital and Jalina will send her ultimate gift of life to them this very night.
I know she is so happy in heaven knowing how many will live here while she flourishes there.
I hope God blesses them with so much peace, joy and happiness as they allow my sweet grandbaby to live on through them!

from my open revision and doing pretty good.
I got the last drain and the feeding tube out last week-thank goodness.
I am able to eat ok-still kinda barfy, but getting better every day.
I sure hope this fixed the stricture problem-I NEVER want to go back to the OR- this was a tough surgery-both my surgeon and his partner who assisted said this was a HUGE surgery (over 5 hours)and that I now have almost no pouch left.

A revision is around the corner

Mar 22, 2007

I am schedued for a revision of my RNY on Tues 3/27 my 51st birthday.
I have continued to have problems with strictures due to excessive scarring.
Wish me luck.

My precious brother was killed in a horrible auto accident on Feb 21st.
He was  driving to the Bay Area early in the morning when he was involved in a collision with a semi truck hauling a load of steel.. We were told he died instantly.
I miss him so much!

I am a 50 year old RN. I have 3 great kids and 4 gorgeous grandkids.
My best friend had this surgery 8 months ago and is doing great, feeling and looking wonderful-I can't wait!
Highest weight 250...current 233....goal 146

Ok-Today is June 9th. I scheduled for 0800 on Monday June 12th for a laproscopic (hopefully) proximal RNY.
Surgery is done! Today is July 3. I am down 15 pounds in 3 weeks.
It's July 29th. I am down to 202!! A long way to go but I am feeling gREAT about my decision to have this surgery.

It's August 18th. i have lost 36 pounds and feel great about it.
Last week I did have an endoscopy to relieve an almost complete stricture and then this week (Tuesday) at work, I felt very weak and strange-turned out I had a bleeding ulcer and my hemoglobin had dropped to a critical level of 6.8 ( normal is 12-16)-so back to endoscopy, started on 2 meds and a couple of units of blood later, I am feel human again.
Even with the complications I feel very blessed to have had this surgery.

Well, today is 12/12-i am 6 months post op today.
I have been through 5 endoscopies, twice for strictures, twice for ulcers and once because I swallowed a piece of gum and , Yes-it DOES clog things up.
I have had to get 6 units of blood for hemorhaging form ulcers but I wouldn't change having this surgery for anything!!
I am now at 164 pounds. I wear a med to a large shirt (down from a 2-3 XL) and pants a 12-14 from a 22. I am 18 pounds from my goal weight in 6 short months. I am healthier than I have been in years.
