My Story
Feb 05, 2009
I've been overweight since around age 10, when I can remember having to get "chubby" clothes at Penney's. Throughout my teen (high school) years I was always about 25-30 lbs over my ideal weight. I married young, at 19, and had 4 babies by age 30, and at one point weighed 265 lbs. I was divorced in 2001, and remarried in 2005. My former husband never understood why I couldn't lose weight for him. There have been a lot of changes in my life in the past 4 years. My current husband and I have 9 children between us and 5 grandchildren (with another on the way). I feel that I spent a lifetime taking care of other people while putting myself last. With my youngest daughter starting college last fall, I decided it was time to do something for ME. I think the fact that my husband married me the way I was, made my decision easier because there was never any pressure (in my mind) to do it for him. He never even knew (or asked) what my weight was and I finally told him the day of my initial consultation for surgery. The surgery was the best thing I've ever done and I'm reminded of that every day when I see the changes taking place in the mirror!
