Hi all! I'm 15 days post-op, and feeling better with each day. I still have incision pain from two main lap. sites, but am hoping they will heal up soon. I take painkillers as needed, and that's usually at night, as I can't find a comfortable position to sleep in. I developed pneumonia in the hospital and was put on IV antibiotics immediately and transferred to the 'step-down' unit, which is where patients go after ICU that aren't quite ready for the regular floors. The entire 7 days in hospital, the kitchen NEVER got my diet right, and I ended up having a DUMPING episode on NON-DIET jello! I was on clear liquids, but they never put me on the sugar free liquids! We must all be careful to read those menus that come with our "meals". I was the one that discovered I wasn't on sugar free, and that was the last day I was in. They brought me Italian Ice and regular jello again! I called the nutritionist and asked if they were trying to kill me! :) I was in recovery for three hours because they couldn't control my pain. It was THE WORST pain of my life! I also discovered I have a very high tolerance to pain killers of all kinds. Thus, the problem with controlling my pain. My surgeon said the surgery went 'perfect'. Now, I'm into the pureed stage, and finding that I can't eat much at all. Maybe only 1 oz of baby cereal at a time. I can't possibly see how I am supposed to get all my protein in, PLUS at LEAST 48 oz of water daily, when I fill up so fast and become so uncomfortable!! Well, that's all there is to share with you now. I'm not sure how to post my own comments, so just stuck it here on my profile page. Hope everyone else is doing well that recently had surgery! Thank you for all the prayers and good wishes! --Cindy

Hi Karen! Thanks for the POSITIVE note! I have discovered just how RIGHT you are as far as maintaining a positive mental attitude. It IS the difference between getting the surgery or NOT. My mind wasn't in the right 'place'when I was scheduled to have the surgery Feb. 11th, so I was glad when I found out our insurance co at the time was no longer covering us, and we had to switch to another carrier! I was all ready approved! Just wasn't ready. NOW I AM READY. I'm getting anxious, actually, so guess that's normal. After surgery, I'm also supposed to get my droopy eyelids taken care of surgically. I saw the eye doc and he said the droopy lid interfered with one of my visual tests, so the surgery SHOULD be covered under insurance. YEAH! It's something I've wanted done for YEARS. I told the eye doc about the bariatric surgery, and he said losing weight would have NO impact on the puffy eyelids. It's mainly genetics. I'M ON A ROLL!! YIPPEE! Thanks again for the prayers and good wishes, Karen! Just a little over two weeks now to my CHANGE OF LIFE! The POSITIVE one! :)

Hi Diane! I was having computer trouble when I typed in a response to your FANTASTIC posting to me, so obviously, it didn't get online. DARN! Well, thank you SO much for the great wishes and note. I'm getting mixed reactions when I tell people about getting the surgery. The ones that don't like the idea, I just let their negativity roll off me. I tell them that I understand their concern, and thank them, but I'm at peace with my decision, and feel really good about it! Thanks again, for the contact, Diane!
