Michelle, The procedures are partly a matter of choice and partly what your surgeon does. I choose the Duodenal Switch and would not have another procedure. I am very happy with having my DS open- but that was the only way my Dr. does it. Your surgeon you are seeing only does RNY. If you want an unbiased view of RNY vs DS, talk to a surgeon that does both.

Please, please don't have LAP! I lost a friend to lap surgery. It is definitely more dangerous. There have been successful ones, but it is safer to have open. Just more pain, and healing time. Best wishes in whatever you decide.

Hi Michelle, I had lap VBG2 last Thursday and never missed a beat!!!! It was wonderful. I couldn't let myself do open gastro bypass if this simple procedure is enough. Dr. Norwood took my gallbladder and I have six small stapled incisions with a drain tube. Tomorrow he will remove 1/2 the staples and the drain. My scales say 15 lbs. since Thursday!! I go back to work MONDAY!!!! Study hard on the decision and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Mary Ann.

HI Michelle, I wanted to send you my prayers and wishes for you. Just remember God doesn't give you anything more than you can handle, even though it seems like he does at time. I wouldn't cancel your counsult either, you need that. Even if you do have to wait a little while for surgery, you can atleast get everything ready. Also, everything may be just fine with you, and you won't have to wait. I really do wish you the best of luck with all you decisions. Sandy

~;~ Angel on Duty ~;~ My angelette Roxie is having a tough time and can use your support. She had been looking forward to her consulation on February 27th and now found out that she has two lumps in her breast and needs to find a new surgeon to consult with on what to do next. Please take a minute to send her positive thoughts either via email or post to her surgery page. She is naturally concerned about the lumps, but also discouraged that she may have to put off her WLS. I know the kind words of all of you on this site can comfort her greatly.
