Well, like most that I've read in here, I have been overweight all my life. Now at 35, unable to do the things I want and feeling like crap all the time, and knowing that nothing I've tried before has done any good, I need to take this step.
My mother had the RNY recently and is doing great. My wife of 13yrs is on board and very supportive as she has been with everything that I do. She is awsome. I will continue this journal throughout my experiance and would appreciate any assistance from post-ops with helpful tips to expidite pre-op steps or succeed in my journey.
1/9- **332lbs**
Well I made the first step two days ago, I had a visit with my PCP and he was on board all the way. He recomended Dr. Chiasson in Tucson. He said he has not done as many of these procedures as some docs up in Phoenix, but he knows him well and he is an amazing surgeon. He set me up with a referal to Chiasson (which I will call on Monday)and blood work (which I will do on Monday as well)and will contact me with those results hopefully late next week. By the way, weighed in at 332 at the docs office with a BMI of 45 and my blood pressure was higher than ever before.
I am seriously considering the RNY and understand that my insurance co. does cover 100%.
8/13- **342**
Well, it's been a while. After my last update I just kinda dropped the ball. Since then, I did try dieting again, and as usual, to no avail. With weight watchers, I did drop down 28lbs in the matter of four weeks, then because of travel w/ work and living out of hotels, failure again. Then more recently, I went for the low calorie thing, same results, except that I am now up 8lbs since the last update.
So...I am going for it now. I have my PCP referal to see Dr. Burpee. I have been to the info seminare with Burpee and have my consult set for Sept 14 with Burpee. I'm going with Burpee because he works out of the same facility as Chaisen and according to my PCP, is just as gifted. Since this is going to happen this time, I will be updating at each step of the way.
9/22- **345.6lbs**
Finally had my first consult w/the surgeon and he says everything looks great and with all the steps I already completed, that I was ahead of the norm and things should move prety quick. He also said that he thinks I will be down to about 230 at the 6month mark, with a weigh in @ 345.6 today that's 115.6lbs!! Or 5lbs a week average. That would be cool!
Some appointments that were made today was one with the nutritionist, one with a sleep study dude, and one with the surgeon to shove a camera down my throat and take a look see in my gut.
He said as for the insurance, they just need to pull some info from my PCP and we should have everything we need and should here something within about two weeks. Let's hope!!!
6/5/06- 360lbs pre-op
Wow, guessit's been a while since I posted. Obviously my wieght is up, but great news....Aproval came in the mail today and my Dr. says my surgery could be as soon as 7/5 if I want, but I need to figure out some work issues, then will set the date. More to come soon!
11/5- 340lbs pre-op- ok, so I delayed things for a little while to try one more time on my own. Made some progress, but as usual, fell off. Dropped down to 320lbs., but after a vacation, was not able to get back into it.
surgury date is set....Nov. 14th, less than two weeks to go. I will write more after my pre-surgical meeting next friday as well as my final pre-op pics.
11/11- Had pre-op stuff done yesterday and only have two and a wake up to go. Only one more full day of real food and can't figure out what I want. I know this is not right thinkin', but the hell with it. I'm thinking a monster porterhouse w/ baked sweet potatoe and garlic toast, then some bourban sauce covered bread pudding. And of course a couple Maker Marks one the rocks. That oughtta give the Fleet something to work for on monday for the cleaning of the pipes.
