After many years of fighting the battle bulge I had resigned myself to being overweight
. Like most of you I tried all of the new diets crazes that would come along and would always make that New Years Resolution to lose weight without success. Short temporary success followed by major disappointment when the weight would come back with more added on top of it
. My wife approached me about the subject of WLS last year and I was very skeptical about the idea. It was something she wanted to do as a team. I was not really sure if I wanted to go through with it but I could not ingnore the success my sister had with lap band 2 years earlier. When we finally seriously looked into the surgery we were glad to find that my wife's insurance would cover the surgery with a very low out of pocket expense for us, I am a government employee and my insurance specifically states that WLS regardless of need was not covered
so it was a blessing that I was on my wife's insurance as well. We had to go through a six month program before her insurance would cover us, I guess we had to prove that we could not lose the weight by other means. Finally we got our approvals and the surgery date approached. We elected to had the procedure on the same day, my wife was first and they doctor performed mine that afternoon. The first week after surgery was horrible, I felt if I had been in a train wreck!!!!
, and my wife felt much worse. We started wondering if we had made the correct decision. After about a week things started improving and the weight started coming off!!! Me being a guy was losing at a much faster rate. It has know been a few months and we have dropped alot of weight and seen a huge improvement in our health. Alot of people have asked how I had off so much weight and I proudly tell about the surgery and how it has helped us
. Some of our friends as seriously considering the procedure as well. I am very happy we had WLS, I am thankful for my wife and the new found freedom WLS has given us
. I am thankful to God for all his continued blessings
. I had always wanted to learn how to fly a plane but due to my weight had difficulty fitting into most trainer planes cockpits. With my new weight loss I started flying lessons last month to obtain my Private Pilot license!!!!

Five months out and the weight loss is slowing a bit, but 77 pounds and counting, cannot wait until I hit the 100 pound mark. Still trying to get this band right though, somedays cannot eat fine other come right back up. Still praiing God for all he has done and will continue to do in my life.
I have finally found my true hobby in flying. I am about halfway through my training and will be doing my first solo flight very soon.
