I am 57 years old. I'm married and have 4 children. My two boys are both married and i have two girls still living at home. I have 6 grandchildren -- 5 boys and 1 girl (yes I do spoil them)

I live in Utah and have been overweight since elementary school. I went on my first weight loss diet at age 13.  Lost about 25 lbs (to around 150) and was pretty happy with life.  Maintained this weight loss thru about age 16, when I met my husband and started dating him. We got married young, (17 and 20) and both packed on the lbs. He is "twice the man" I married. Throughout our 40 years of marriage, I've gained and lost a ton of weight (well maybe not quite a TON, but a lot)...we all know the story -- lose 20, gain 25 -- lose 40, gain 50 -- lose 80, gain 100. Then after gaining 100, get extremely discouraged, depressed, sick, tired, etc, etc.

I finally decided to follow the advice of my Primary Care Physician and pursue WLS. I decided to have the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy...apparently I was the first patient from my surgeon's office to get insurance approval for the VSG.

Am I ever glad I made this decision.  I've been discouraged sometimes, but over all this has been an eye-opening experience.  I don't have cravings (except for fresh fruit), I am satisfied with very small portions, and I am sickened watching how much other people eat and remembering the enormous portions I formerly consumed.
I am in this for improved health.  I am already off three medications and am meeting with my PCP in two weeks to be re-evaluated, so maybe less meds after that!
