Five Months Out!
Apr 05, 2007
Tomorrow I will be five months out from surgery!! I have worn out the battery on my scales. I bought a regular scale today but my husband says its wrong. I am going to take it back and buy a new battery tomorrow. When I weighed on Saturday I was 187-- that's 70 pounds!! My husband has lost about 110 pounds. The last month has been slow on losing. I have been exercising as much as I can but apparently it's not enough. I still have 47 pounds to go to get to my goal. I am down from a size 24 to a misses size 14. I am addicted to shopping now. It feels so good to be able to get into the smaller sizes!!

I MADE IT!!!

We went on vacation to Florida last week for a few days. We felt like we needed a mini-vacation since our surgery. We decided we would go to Disney for a few days while we were there. My husband warned me that we probably would not get to go on many rides due to him still being pretty big. I told him I thought he would be surprised. He got on the Test Track at Epcot and smiled from ear to ear when he saw how far down the bar came. Needless to say I think we rode every ride we could!! I was excited about the difference in the airplane seats. My husband could actually get the belt fastened easily and had to pull it tighter. I was amazed at how much room I had in the seat.
I purchased the book Before & After Weight Loss Surgery by Susan Maria Leach-- she states her motto is "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels". I still have about 60 more pounds to go before I am at what I want my goal to be but I strongly agree with her. I went into a plus size clothing store while we were on vacation and the only thing that fit me was the shoes!!! What a feeling!!!!
Just a Few More Pounds

Ten Weeks Out For Me (Eight Weeks for My Husband)
Jan 14, 2007
I am down 47 pounds and have been stuck this week. My husband is down 75 pounds. I can't believe it!! We are struggling through getting all of our protein in. We have been able to go out to eat with our friends and just watch what we eat. We went to eat at Ruby Tuesdays on Friday night. We ordered a grilled chicken breast which came with two sides. We got two orders of the creamy mashed cauliflower since it had less carbs and was the most like pureed food. We couldn't even eat half of our half of chicken breast or half of the side order. The waiter looked at us funny when we asked for a to go box. He looked at us and said "Do you want dessert?". My husband explained that we had had surgery and he then understood. Before the surgery we could have each eaten the whole meal and probably at least split a dessert. It is so different now but we both feel so much better. I have been fixing some chinese food which follows all of the low carb-low fat- and high protein. My husband still isn't that big on fish or any type of seafood. I got some different types of fish to try this week so maybe we can at least find one that he likes. We are taking dance lessons on Friday nights which is giving us some exercise. We may be picking up another type of dance on Wednesdays but we'll see. We also are going to try to start going to the gym so we can do water aerobics or just swim. We have heard that this makes the weight fall off faster.
Seven Weeks Out (Five Weeks For My Husband)
Dec 25, 2006
My mom came in from Ohio on Friday. Typically we go out to eat all the time while she is here so it was hard not to continue the pattern.
Friday night Sean decided he want to try one of the KFC bowls. He ate about two bites and was full. I stuck to something a little lighter myself and found out that Long John Silver's has baked fish (instead of the fried with breading). I also tried some of their lobster bites, peeling all of the breading off. They were really good.
We did go out to eat on Saturday night with some friends. This was the first time we had done this since our surgeries. We got one meal of grilled chicken tenders and each had a cup of potato soup as our side. We each ate about a chicken tender and a half plus most of our soup. We were so full!! I think we tried to overdo it. It just tasted so good though. It's hard to believe that before we each could have ate that meal by ourselves plus a few rolls and maybe an appetizer with it. At least we felt normal again being able to go out with our friends.
Yesterday, we went to my husband's parents since it was his mom's birthday. We each tasted a bite of a Christmas cookie. Sean got some stomach cramps from it but luckily I didn't get anything. This may be a bad thing for me. I was satisfied with what I had though and really didn't want anymore.
Today, I fixed a few deviled eggs, a turkey roast, mashed potatoes, and corn. We normally would have had a lot more than this as well as two or three desserts. It was strange to make only a few deviled eggs compared to what I usually make. Sean and I each managed to eat a little of everything. I only ate a few bites of the deviled egg and it didn't really taste that good to me. For dessert I made sugar-free cheesecake pudding with sugar-free Cool Whip on top. This made us felt pretty normal since we did get to eat normal food just not near as much as we normally would.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and has a Happy New Year!!!
One Month Post Op Visit (Two Weeks For My Husband)
Dec 08, 2006
We are both now on pureed food. It really isn't bad, at least it's food and not liquids. My husband was craving pizza so I took very lean ham and onions then pureed them in pizza sauce, added some spices, and then topped it with mozzarella cheese. Voila pizza!! It's all things that we can have. It comes up to about 13.5 grams of protein for our 1.5 ounce serving, which is great!!
I have found the hardest thing for me is to go to the grocery store. First, everything you buy that is new you have to read the labels. Next, there is always some free sample of something good that they are trying to give away. Not to mention just looking at all of the things that you really want to buy but can't. I am sure that this will get easier as I start buying the same things and knowing what to fix all of the time. My husband has great ideas for things to fix so I think it will be easier too now that he is on the pureed stage with me.
We are both going to start exercising so we can keep the weight coming off. I want to loose about 115 pounds so I am almost a quarter of the way there. I have found a ballroom dancing class that we are going to try. This will be something fun to do to get some exercise.
Two Week Post Op Visit

11/22/06-- Down 18 pounds!!! Woohooh!!! I can now start on pureed foods. I am looking forward to starting to eat again but scared on the other hand. I hope everything goes down okay.
It looks like my husband is going to be stuck in the hospital one more night. He had a lot of trouble getting rid of the gas that they put into your abdominal cavity for the laparoscopic surgery. After Dulcolax and increased Reglan IV and still nothing I got onto the Internet to search for a relief for him. We saw several articles that showed they had been doing research and chewing gum was actually shown to help. So gum chewing he started, sugar free of course, and I'm not sure what finally did the trick but within about after chewing the gum he was finally getting some relief. Since he had the severe pain he couldn't get his fluids in so we are staying another night. He is starting to feel better and is getting fluids in already.
