All About Me

Aug 11, 2007

Hello,
My name is Becca and I'm 22 years old.  I had the mini gastric bypass surgery on May 10, 2007 in Joplin Missouri with Dr. David Hargroder.   On the day of my surgery I was 279#.  The day of my surgery went well without a hitch.  I came out of surgery and the nurses let me sleep until I woke up.  Then they got me out of bed and had me to walk around the wing.  The first walk didnt go so well because of all the medication from surgery I felt dizzy and sick.  So I went straight to bed and made an attempt to walk later on that evening.   I was provided with a morphine pump but suprisingly, I didnt need it.   I didnt experience the chest and shoulder pain like most do with having the air pumped inside of your body for surgery.  The first day I ate a few bites of Yogurt, drank some broth, nibbled on a saltine cracker and sipped on gaterade.  The next day in the hospital I got out of bed and took a shower and felt 10x better. I ate pretty much the same thing and walked more and felt excellent!  My nurse was teasing me and said I was exceeding the speed limit in the hall way because I was walking pretty good on my own.  Later that night I was released from the hospital and we went back to my hotel room.  We went to Wal Mart and shopped for yogurt and a few necessitys and by the time we got to the hotel room I was pretty sleepy.  The following days after surgery went well also.  We went to the mall, the movies, wal mart a couple more times, and I sat with my mom and grandma when they went out to dinner and suprisingly I had no urge to jump over the table and gobble there food up! lol  Its neat, when you have the surgery your desire to eat fades and so you have to make a conscious decision to  remind yourself to eat.
