I have always been a husky guy.  That has never held me back though.  I was always a good athlete but still I was husky.  I have many friends and a likeable guy, but some people are intimidated by me because of my size.  I have battled the bulge for most of my life and seemed to have lost each one.  Both of my parents had been on the husky side as well.  My mother lost 180 pounds on Atkins type diet, but she has recently put it back on.  My father passed away in January of this year after a long battle with strokes that he had recieved thanks to the beating he received from a gang in east side San Jose.  Before that he was a musician and you guessed it, husky.  Most of my family has a history of being on the choloricly challenged side of life on both sides.
I first learned of WLS when a friend had the surgery about 10 years ago.  At that time it wasn't as popular as it is today.  She had several complications and I did not want to have the surgery.  I was around 325.  I found myself motivated to lose weight and lost 75 pounds in 6 months.  I worked as a personal trainer and tried out for an adult baseball league.  I was a first round draft pick of the Yankees in the SJMSBL.  This was an over 28 league of men and woman that played baseball from a competitive level of HIgh School through the major leagues.  I had played college ball and found myself enjoying the competitive level of ball i was once again involved with.  The day before my 30th birthday I received a call from a team in Monterey.  They were short a player and needed me to come out and play.  I grabbed my gear and drove to Monterey.  I was very excited and honored that they remembered me from another league and wanted me to play with them.  I started at 3rd base and we were losing after 3 innings by about 4 runs.  They asked me to warm up in the bullpen between innings as I might be needed to pitch.  The next inning I got the call to the mound and pitched probably the best game of my post college career.  That was until the 8th inning when my arm broke in the middle of a pitch.  I walked off the field and sat on the bench as the ambulance came to pick me up.  I had a spiral fracture of the right humerous.  I was engaged and very depressed which does not make for a good combination.  My weight balooned up over 300 in a couple of months.  My fiance became very angry about my weight gain which also didn't help.  We got married and things got worse.  She looked down on me and my weight continued to increase.  After 4 months of being told I look disgusting and other events that I don't want to talk about I decided to leave.  I tried to comfort myself with food and alcohol, but that continued my weight gain.
Fast forward to this year.  After about 5 years of researching WLS surgery I found that my work had changed insurance groups and had an option that would cover the surgery.  I started in January.  I was told that I had to go through many tests and counseling appointments.  I had no idea that it would take nearly a year to get through the process.  During this year I had married and received a lot of support from my wife Judi and her daughter.  In September I had completed all the pre-req's that had been requested.  Now I had to loose 20 pounds or Dr Legha was not going to do the surgery.  I was discouraged, but tried to loose the weight.  I lost 10 pounds and he said he would do it as long as i did not gain any weight.  The rest is history.
