*I was asked how long I've been heavy for and I thought back - 3rd grade. That's what I remember - a photo of me with my ribbon from Field Day - stomach sticking out and a short boy hair cut.
*Because of weight, I started my period before any of my friends.
*Because of weight, I never had a boyfriend through high school.
*Because of weight, I didn't go to my Jr. Prom (and I asked about 8 different people)
I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in August 2001. The day I found out I was shocked, upset, and downright clueless. I didn't know where to turn or what I was going to do. I schooled myself reading anything I could find. I thought that was going to be my life changing event. I thought that would be my kick in the butt... and it was... for a few years... then I realized I could eat sugar without dying. And the weight started climbing, the meds started increasing. I was steadily losing control.
In 2010, I changed my endocrinologist. That is where my life started to change. They tweeked my medications and although the insulin was increasing, I still thought they had a better handle on the DMII better than anyone else.
Fast forward - October 2011 - "have you ever thought about weight loss surgery?" Well, no, and as a matter of fact, I was pretty much against it. I can lose the weight on my own, right? I know what to eat, how to eat, but I just DON'T do it! Food is too accessible and I have no self control.
Begin research. I started finding out about surgery options and scanning the boards. I also had a friend that went through the procedure 3 months prior. We talked in length about Gastric Bypass and once he let me in on EVERYTHING - I WAS SOLD!
January 2012 - the process begins. Contact the Ellis Hospital Bariatric Center and the rest, as they say, is history -
April 17, 2012 - my 2nd Birthday!!!!!! Looking forward to becoming a new me!
