How far should I go back? In Hawaii in 2008 I was going through the process towards weight loss surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center. I had been doing all the meetings and appointments for about 6 months when I got pregnant with Kari. I had to drop out of the program at that point. I was planning on returning to it after we were done having kids. I had gestational diabetes with Kari and Mikey. After Mikey was born I kept tracking my blood sugar and took my results to my doctor. He ran tests and confirmed I have type 2 diabetes. I starting seeing a nutritionist here. My last A1C was 5.8 which means my diabetes is under great control. Through tests my doctor discovered I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. It can cause weight gain, difficulty to lose weight, excess body hair and facial hair. It usually causes fertility problems. My doctor when I was a teenager thought I might have it, but with having Katrina they shrugged it off. I do have it, just obviously not severe fertility problems. So I mentioned to my doctor about being interested in bariatric surgery. That was about a year ago. At my last appointment i]I was telling him about mom and he said he could go ahead and refer me if I want him to. With a bmi if 45, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, knee problems and the risk of my pelvic organ prolapse returning, I more than qualify. My highest known weight was 298.2 after having Mikey. When I went to my first Bariatric appt in August I weighed 289.6. Having gone to Tripler before, I had an advantage because of all my knowledge. I started their 1100 calorie diet. When they submitted my packet to insurance for approval I waited 5 days then called them. They have 30 days to review and make a decision. I told them about all my medical problems and everything it will help with. They approved it later that day. I'm currently on the 800 calorie pre op diet. I know weigh 272. My surgery is the 23rd of September 2014!
