Update June 15, 2019: For many years I looked and felt great. Now I have Severe Reactive Hypoglycemia due to the surgery. I am down to eat about 6 or 7 food items just to keep my blood sugar up. I have looked into a reversal but the Endo wants to try Acarbose for 30 days to see how I do. I am terrified to go anywhere in fear of my blood sugar dropping. This is not the life I signed up for.
Looking back now I am so glad I had the surgery. I started at 309 lbs and I am now at 148. My life in one simple word is "Easier". It took me approx. 2 years to get the surgery approved. I switched jobs a few times until I found a company that had medical insurance that would cover the surgery. I was not going to give up for nothing. When I finally got approved I knew right then that my life would change for the better. I had a wonderful surgeron (Dr Robin Blackstone) who I would recommend to anyone. The doctor, the program and the hospital were all wonderful. My husband just had his surgery this past Monday 12-11-06 with Dr Simon and although he is a good doctor I would never recommend him because the hospital (Phoenix Memorial) and the way the whole program was is just horrible. Anyway back to me ;o) I wound up staying in the hosp. for 6 days instead of the normal 3 due to some heart problems. They ran all kinds of tests and never found anything, so I was sent home. After about a week or so I just didn't feel right so I went to Chandler Hosp. and I found out I had a highly contagious viral infection that I must of caught in the hosp. After I started taken medication for that I started to feel pretty good and at the end of 3 weeks I went back to work. After a few weeks of working, one day I noticed I could not keep anything down and wound up back in the ER. They found out I had a stricture and I got to spend another 4 days in the hosp. but as soon as they popped that open I was good to go. No more problems and I was losing weight pretty well. I just had my 1 1/2 year check up yesterday and I can't believe I weigh 148. I am skinnier now then when I was a senior in high school. I have 8 more pounds to go to reach my goal. I know I can do it as soon as the holidays are over....ha ha ha....Well that is my short story and life is getting better every day. Now if I can just figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I love animals and I love to bake...maybe I should start my own dog bakery business....
