I was not overweight as a child or teenager. I was tall so I carried more weight then most. After high-school is when the weight started to increase. While trying to balance college, work, and inactivity; the lbs seemed to appear slowly. Within 1 year of getting married i gained over 100 lbs. This was mainly due to the forementioned reasons and our dependence on Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr and other quick meal plans to get through the day.

After we split up, I continued to increase in weight. Emotional eating became a staple of my diet and I could never eat enough to be satisfied. I got help for my emotional and mental well-being and things are great. The help I sought for my physical well-being has not gone as well. I have struggled with the diets and plans, shakes and supplements. Down 30, up 40. This cycle continued for a good portion of 10 years.

I remarried and have children who have never thought of me as being overweight and love me for who I am. So I continued to try plans and diets for myself to improve my life.

In 2007, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and was placed medication to control it. Diabetes runs in my family and I have lost many family members to the disease. When the medications impact on my Diabetes began to weaken and my numbers began to climb, I knew it was time for drastic action so I would not let this disease get me as well.

I had been studying the Gastric Bypass for a number of years but thought of it as a easy way out, cheating if you will, and reserved it in my mind as a last resort. With the other comorbidities that had found a home in my body and the success Dr. Blackstone has had in reversing and eliminating Diabetes I made the desicion to proceed forward.

My struggles continued in the form of insurance acceptance. It seems that the proof I provided of medically supervised weight management was not enough for them and they wanted me to undergo a new program. So, sfter a year and a half, I finally got my acceptance letter and scheduled with the Scottsdale Bariatric Center.

According the Dr. Blackstone (awesome) and Melissa Davis R.N. (my angel), my surgery was textbook and things went great. Other than being overwhelmed by the pain (this was my first surgery) I was walking fine and felt tired but good.

I am now home and adjusting to my new lifestyle. My family has been so supportive and things look bright for me. My blood sugars have dropped 80 points and my weight is melting away.
