3 Weeks Post-Op

Nov 01, 2009

Happy Halloween everyone!  Yesterday, I ended up going to the ER because the pain in the center and right side of my body and back was so bad, I was worried about a rupture.  After the CT scan, they said they think everything looks okay and to follow-up for my surgeon.  I am trying to do a little better, but sleeping and managing pain can be hard and difficult.  I am trying to have a real positive attitude, and be grateful to be here and have the life that I do.  I am so thankful for my children and my husband.  My husband is going to buy some protein for me to make shakes today.  I am not sure how it will go, but I am hoping if I can get some more protein in that it will give me more energy and make me feel better.  I still get up from my recliner every two hours and walk, and I am still using the breathing spirometer (I think that is what it is called), and so...  I am hoping that I will get to feeling better soon.  I am still using my Gas - X because it does help.  My PCP told me this week that I should be able to take pills, and put me on an antidepressant, although when I took it, it caused me so much pain to digest it.  Anyways...  Thank you everyone for such great advice, it really helps so very, very much!

Still Sick.. Ugh... But I'm Smiling Though...

Oct 28, 2009

Have you ever been frustrated because your not sure if what you are going through is normal and part of the healing process, or if it is something else?  I saw my surgeon yesterday and he removed all my staples.  I'm very happy that that was done, and as of this friday, I will be three weeks post op.  I have had some heart palpitations or maybe gas trapped in my chest... I don't know what it is, and he said it was from the Gas X.  I have 4-5 strips a day because I have gas pain.  He said that gas pain isn't real.  I started to add other soup with some cream in them to my diet, and I am trying to stay hydrated.  When I woke up this morning, it was very hard to sit upright.  After I sit up for a little bit, I move to the living room and try and become comfortable.  I don't know if the nausea I feel is because I am hungry or eating the wrong thing.  I drink my diluted apple juice and broth, but I don't know if its enough.  My surgeon said I didn't need protein supplements, and I don't have anyone to talk to that can answer my questions.  Its very frustrating.  He said I should not have pain, but I still do through most of the day.  It isn't as severe as before the surgery but after having the open RNY isn't normal that I hurt?  I do have pain still, sometimes when I eat.  I don't know if its still incision pain, if it's normal to have pain in your stomach...  I just don't know.  I have a booklet I got from the hospital, and I guess thats the only guidance I have.  Still through out the whole thing, I am trying to keep a smile on my face and feel the blessing of being here!  If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it!  Thank you.

2 Weeks Post Op

Oct 26, 2009

I have been having a rougher week as my second week of post-op.  I am able to get up and down easier, but I still can't sleep flat without it hurting.  I also have these feelings that feel like heart palpitations or maybe it's gas trapped in my chest.  I'm not quite sure.  I am happy to be sleeping though, that is helping alot.  Tomorrow, I see how many staples I get pulled out at the dr.'s.  Should be interesting...
