Three Months Post-Op
Mar 30, 2009
Everything has been going smoothly. I have had no problems with food...except the occasional meat I dry out! LOL! Getting all the protein in is a bit of an issue but I'm trying!!! I work out five days a week and love it! Okay, so maybe I don't love it bright and early like when I go but I do love it once I'm done!!!
Looking forward to WARM and SUN!!!
11 Weeks Post-Op
Mar 10, 2009
I've been so blessed to have had no complications with my pouch. I feel terrific. I can eat basically anything as long as I don't dry it out...I have a habit of overcooking meat and well, lets say I'm trying to break that habit! Of course, I don't eat sweets but if I do get that sweet tooth and fruit don't help, I have a low sugar granola bar. It's like 100 calories, not much protein but helps with the sweet tooth!
Nothing much else new, just keepin' on, keepin' on!
Have a blessed week.

Get to start "soft" foods tomorrow. Couldn't be more excited! Joined the rec center today...that's pretty exciting too. I can't wait to get moving!!!

It's been about 2 and 1/2 weeks since surgery. I'm down 18 pounds since them. I am finally starting to feel better as far as the side pain goes. I'm starting to bend a bit more and not have to clutch my side as much! I'm still shocked by how exhausted I get doing simple things like cleaning, taking a shower or walking around Walmart!!! I have noticed that I am able to go longer periods of time before resting so that's a plus!
Getting all my protein in has been an issue. I haven't been able to find a protein powder that I like post-op. Pre-op, no problem but post-op...yikes, they all taste yucky!! I am able to start soft foods on the 16th so that's pretty exciting. I'm thinking I can start protein bar shopping soon! YAHOO!!!
My favorite post-surgery tool: COAT HANGER
Yes, you read it, a coat hanger! If you read my previous post, you have read about how I used the coat hanger to pick up my keys....well, I've gotten lots of cleaver, creative ways to pick things up with a coat hanger! For example, clothes that fall on the floor when you are folding them or what about pulling the clothes forward in the dryer because you can't bend down enough to reach back that far?! Yup, a coat hanger works great! I used it for other things but cannot think right now....but trust me, it is a lifesaver!!! LOL!

Post Op Appointment
Jan 06, 2009
So Dr. Kia says it looks like everything is going great. I am down 9.5 pounds (YAHOO!). Still quite sore but he says it's the muscle that is causing all the pain and to continue the pain meds as needed and in three weeks the pain should be gone. Three weeks? Yikes, I want the pain gone today! And man O man, talk about pain after getting into the van, driving over all the bumps, the stop and go, getting out of the van, the up and down at the office and then of course I had the brillient idea of going to Walmart to get some "new" food. Ouch, I was hurtin'!!! As soon as I got in the door of my house I slammed down the Loratab! That stuff is great...I was feeling much better within an hour or so. Thank God!
I'm normally a really independant person, asking for NO help and doing everything on my own. Well, not this time. My house is driving me crazy with "stuff" everywhere and laundry up the wahzoo that needs to be done. My friend offered to come over and clean and I cannot even believe it but I'm taking her up on it. Tomorrow she's coming and I cannot be more thrilled!!!
Alright my friends, I hope everyone is doing wonderful. I'll write soon.

I was feeling pretty good this afternoon. I haven't been out in a whole week so I thought I'd go to the store, bank, post office, church and then to a friends house. Wow, big mistake! I guess they don't want you driving for a reason! Sitting straight up in the car hurt my stomach and driving over bumps...not good!!! I drove to the post office and right back home. I got all white and clamy on my way home. It was gross! Then, I drop my keys walking up to my house. Being I can't bend over, how the heck am I going to get them. I all of a sudden got a creative idea. I go in the house and grab a coat hanger....it worked!!! Now, thank God no cars drove by...I'm sure someone would've gotten a good laugh watching me! It was quite commical!
Tomorrow is my one week follow-up appointment. I'm excited to see how much weight I have lost. And, I'm hoping that I can start pureed foods. Real food sounds so good!!! :) I'll write tomorrow with my updated results.
Post-Op Surprises!!
Jan 04, 2009
1.) I have this aching pain on my left side. I really cannot even describe the pain. If I push in on it when standing/walking, it definitely helps but as soon as I let go it is a ton of pain. Strange...it almost feels like something is in there, like a pressure feeling too. It has gotten better since yesterday so I'm sure soon enough I'll forget I even had the pain!
2.) I thought by six days post-op I would be up shopping and cleaning and etc. NOPE....not even a chance! It took me like 2 hours to recover from a shower today and that was only showering, not getting ready doing my hair or putting makeup on!!!
3.) I thought my family would be a bit more supportive. Well, my immediate family at least. My mom has been wonderful, she took last week off of work and helped me a TON! My husband, not so much. In fact, he's really been a jerk. I think he has some jealousy issues because he keeps talking about me "failing" but I didn't expect he wouldn't help me out as much as he hasn't.
Speaking of that, I'm not supposed to drive for two weeks...well, the kids go back to school tomorrow so it looks like I'll be driving. My hubby won't ask his mom (and she hasn't offered) to help me out. It's not really a big deal, it's about a 10 mile round trip trip so I'll manage just fine. Tuesday, on the other hand, I have to go for my follow-up and he won't ask his mom to drive me either. Why can't I ask her you ask? I just hate to inconvenience anyone and especially being she has only called me twice since surgery and both conversations were 30 seconds or less (yes, I'm serious). She knows I can't drive and she didn't offer. Oh well, I guess I'm having a bit of a pity party. Trust me, I have NO regrets about the surgery...just wish I could pick a better hubby!!! LOL!!!
3 Days POST-Op
Dec 31, 2008
My wonderful sister has had my kids since Sunday night. They are coming home today. I'm excited to see them. My little guy who is 5 keeps asking if I had a baby when I was at the hobsitable (his pronounciation). We keep telling him no but you know how those little ones are once they make up their mind...I hope he's not disappointed! Hoping to keep them calm for the next couple days. My sister said they were great with minimal fighting so they may just be waiting to get home before really starting to fight! Glad they were good for her, that's the main thing.
Well I'm going to rest and sip, rest and sip. Thanks to everyone who has checked on me. I REALLY appreciate all the prayers and support. I'm hoping to take a few minutes each day and write my thoughts and feelings down.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
5 days Pre-Op
Dec 23, 2008
I received a package from Tami yesterday. Amazing...she included a bunch of samples of vitamins, protein drinks and powders so I can start trying them before surgery. What a blessing that was?! Thanks again Tami, you're the best!!!
I anticipate Christmas Day and the evening after (both family gatherings) to be hard. Christmas day there will be food out all day long. Yikes....and some good cooking. The nutritionist is being very generous and said I could have "normal" food but sticking as close to the lean cuisine, liquid diet. So, veggies and meat and a little bit of fruit...that's it! I can do it. Just gotta keep my eyes on the prize!!!
I'm going to attempt to upload some pictures of me that were taken on Monday (one week pre-op). I'm planning on taking all me measurements too and listing them as well. (Just for future reference for myself.)
Merry Christmas!
