Stiches Fixed.... Yeah!!

Nov 15, 2007

Went in to get my PORT stiches fixed.   Surgery went well. And best of all....he did a fill for me!!

I finally feel pumped and ready to get going on my weight loss!!

It's hard to tell what I should be up and around doing, and what is too much.   After having blood clots in my lungs after the 1st surgery...I need to ensure I am up and moving around enough.  However, since I am on blood thinners....any kind of movement can open my stiches and there is a little bleeding.

I'm thinking at this point....no guts, no glory!!!   I'm going to go see what I can do today!!!!

Foodwise...protein drinks yesterday (day of surgery) was no problem.  I had a little bit of applesauce this morning.  Guess I'll stick to the soft foods today and tomorrow,...then can get going on non-man made protein!  Hopefully, that will get me that full feeling I'm looking for !!

Today is the first day...of the rest of my life!!!

Stiches Ripped!! Arrrrrggggggg!!!

Nov 10, 2007

Just when I thought things were going to get better.....!!!!

One month in ...now on Coumiden for my blood clots, I am finally going in to get my first fill.

However, after 3 attempts....the PA could not hit the fill port...so she had me reschedule over to the surgery center, where they had an xray machine.

3 days later, at the surgery center...they attempted to do the fill...but with the xray machine...they found that my stiches had ripped...and my port had flipped.

The only way to "un-flip" it, is through another surgery (as if the last one was not enough excitement!!).

Rapid Heart Rate & Breathing Problems

Nov 10, 2007

By day 4, when I thought I would be going back to work after my lap-band surgery....I would do simple things....like getting up and going to the bathroom...then I found that my heart rate was very fast and wouldn't slow down for 20-25 minutes.

Long story short...when I went to the doctors later that week, they sent me to the hospital....where they diagnosed me with massive blood clots in both lungs.  I was in the hospital for 5 days.

Every doctor kept asking me "Do you know how close you were???!!"  They meant of course, to dying.   So....If you have trouble breathing (shortness of breath) and your heart rate is significantly higher when you do just minor exhertion (my resting heart rate is 60...but after taking a shower...it was about 120 where it would stay for 20-25 minutes)...then go to the emergency room.   I know that may seem like a dramatic step.   I really didn't feel sick...but I am glad I went in!

Lap Band Recovery Time

Sep 24, 2007

I had outpatient lap-band surgery last Friday afternoon.  The whole appointment was 3.5 hours from the time I walked in, to the time I walked out.

Getting into my recliner when I arrived at home was easy...but I found that getting out was a little tougher (I have the kind of recliner you have to kick to get the foot in...no handle).  For the first 2 days....I had to have someone help me in and out of it.  But by the evening of day two...I was self serving!!

Two days after surgery was my toughest time.   For some reason...when I would get up..I was light headed and felt a little sick to my stomach.

I had wanted to go back to work on Monday (day 3)....but decided (after the flux of day 2)  that I needed to be med free....and certainly not light headed....so I am postponing going back to work at least Wednesday (day 4)....I want to come back strong!!!

I am sick of the liquid diet (been on it since 2 weeks before the surgery)...but it is definitely teaching me that this is a two part puzzle....lap band and protein choices!
