Oh where to begin...I am 37 years old and a mommy of two beautiful boys. I've had issues with my weight since the late 90's...However, I was only in the 180's and 190's. My REAL problems started in 2003 with my first pregnancy. I ate my way through that pregnancy and gained more weight after the baby than I did during my pregnancy. My second pregnancy was the same. I didn't gain much weight during it, but after it was a disaster.
I've sincerely tried dieting and I've been a lifetime member of Weight Watchers since 1997. I've also tried Atkins, The Zone, and calorie counting. I took Meridia, Phen Fen, and Zenical. For the last 5 years I've been taking an OTC medication called Lipodrene with ephedra. Anything I ever lost came back quickly.
I have had asthma since childhood, but I was always able to get by with an inhaler. I now have an Advair inhaler, Albuterol (using 10-12 times per day), Singulair, and inhalation treatments of Xopenex and Pulmacort. In addition, I was diagnosed with Hypertriglyceridemia and GERD. I realize I have to do this for my health and my family.
My second son (now 6 months old) was born healthy, but within hours both lungs collapsed and he was placed on a respirator. Seeing his little body fighting for his life was by far the worst experience of my life...but I realize, if that precious baby can fight like that then he deserves a mommy that needs to fight to lead a healthier lifestyle.
So, here I am...waiting to have my first appt. with Dr. Pirrello on 4/9/08. I pray my insurance company (Blue Cross State Teachers Insurance) will give my family and me a second chance.
