I had a RNY gastric bypass in December of 1997, lost 220 lbs. and kept it off for almost 10 years. I have been overweight since early childhood, was always the "fat kid" in school and spent most of my life on the yo-yo diet roller coaster ride. Even with the obesity problem and the health issues that came with it, I have maintained a busy, active life, I have a great family, a great job and very little to complain about.

In late 2006, I started gaining weight and was experiencing some problems with pain and nausea. I always seemed to be hungry and was increasingly frustrated. Within a year, I had gained almost 100 lbs. and was depressed and confused.

In December of 2007, I underwent surgery that I thought was going to be a revision. As it turned out, it became a repair of a fistula and a hiatal hernia. It took three hours just to dissect the adhesions from my prevous surgery before the repair work could be done, and then a good two months of recovery. Fast forward to December, 2008. I am about to undergo a *real* revision - to reinstate my original gastric bypass. I am not looking forward to this second round of surgery, but I am going to do whatever it takes to get back to my healthy weight. I have asthma and it has been in total remission until the last year. The heavier I got, the worse the asthma became, until now I am finally back on the asthma medications I so happily gave up many years ago. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels have gone up and my knees are hurting again.

I love my job and my family, and I am looking forward to getting healthy again so that I can enjoy as many years as possible with them. Next Wednesday (December 10th, 2008), I have my preop appointment and then my surgery will be the following Monday, December 15th, 2008.

Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers as I start the journey once again. Best wishes to everyone facing a similar challenge! Don't beat yourself up over it - move on and keep your goals in sight.
