Happy Thanksgiving!

Nov 26, 2008

Well, today is Thanksgiving and boy do I have alot to be thankful for!! Things are so different this year I am so blessed! Yesterday I spent the day with my energetic 4 year old and had a blast. We played in the playground at McDonalds and at the park...wow! I don't know who was more tired at the end of the day but I know I felt great. Last year at this time I never would have been able to think about doing this must less actually doing it. I can only think that this is just the beginning of more, much more, to come and am so thankful I decided to take this journey. I know I still have a ways to go but have no doubts that it is something I will be able to do now. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

Still Learning

Sep 23, 2008

Well today is 3 months since surgery...WOW!! It seems like it has been much longer than that. My life has already changed so much, for the better, that it's hard to believe. I have SO MUCH MORE energy and stamina it's really crazy. I am going to the gym at least 3 times a week and even enjoying it! Whoever would have thunk it...lol My clothes are falling off me as fast as I can put them on...lol. My little one doesn't like the fact that mama can catch him when he runs away now...oh well little man it's only gonna get worse!

Now for the negative... I am still having trouble determining when I have had enough and make myself sick sometimes. I don't throw up (sometimes wish I could) but feel horrible. Unfortunately I haven't found much that I can't eat in small quantities, even sweets. I am able to stay away better than before though so that's a positive. I try really hard to take all my vitamins but yuck on that calcium. I really need to find something that I can take that's better, I can not chew those pills!!!

I just returned from a cruise, what a change. Figured out after the first 2 days that things were gonna have to be very different and all went well after that. The gym on board was great and I even did the 1 mile On Deck Walk for the Cure Breast Cancer walk!! I was proud of me.

All in all I guess I have to say I made the right decision having this surgery. The benefits so far have definately outweighed the negatives. I see my GP this week for labs and Dr. Blaney next week for a check up so will post after those visits to let everybody know what the real story is!!

Almost 3 Weeks!

Jul 10, 2008

Well, almost 3 weeks post-op and feeling much better.  I can honestly say I feel 100% better than last week.  Hopefully this trend will continue.  I am able to get my fluid intake to the mark daily and having better luck with my protein.  I am at about 50 grams most days and higher on others.  Once more solid food is allowed I think I will be okay.  I have found most of the protein drinks to either taste like baby formula smells...ugh, or be so sweet I have to add water to get them down.  Whatever it takes...lol.  I have been walking but now I think it's time to take the big step, join a gym.  Oh boy...wish me luck, or should I say wish them good luck...lol!!

Journey - Week 1

Jul 04, 2008

Well surgery is over, thank goodness, and life goes on!  Overall, the past week has been bearable.  Not as bad as it could have been, but not as easy as I hoped.  Stayed in hospital for 4 days after surgery and had some minor pain control issues that were quickly resolved.  NO nausea!!!!  Hope I'm not speaking too soon...lol.  Tolerating diet well so far and pain is controled without meds at this point.  Trying to learn how to drink properly has given me a fit but if that's the worst I think I'll work thru it.  First MD check-up 9 days post-op went well.  Diet advanced a bit and I had lost 9 lbs - 1 lb a day!!!  Overall, a slightly bumpy start to this journey but one I would start again.  Hopefully all continues to go well.

Pre-Op

Jun 18, 2008

Okay, pre-op done so now just waiting for Monday!  This is really happening!  Up till now it's all just been a process of tests and doctors, now its really gonna happen.  I have been so lucky that this process has been so smooth so far, but keep wondering if something is gonna happen now.  I guess thats just my nerves kicking in.  Everything will be fine, that's what I have to keep thinking!!!  I am ready!!!
