Meds: One Eliminated (Glipizide)

Nov 08, 2010

I am happy to report that my doctor has eliminated one of my diabetic medications this morning.  I was complaining that my blood sugars have been getting too low (low-mid 60's) and I been feeling real shaky and he called this morning to say not to take my Glipizide.  That is the plan - to hopefully get off all of my meds, be it one med at a time, I would be very happy with that!

I was also told today (especially being a Monday!) that I looked good and healthy.  Not only by one person, but 3 different people.  That has started my work day in such a positive way!  Plus getting up at 5am because of the time-change has gotten me to the gym this morning; hope I can keep that one up!

Another motivator for me has been my church; just perfect for me and for all of us.  Sharing today's daily devotional to remind myself and whoever cares to read this:

Take Care of Your Body
by Rick Warren

I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV)

"Keeping your body in shape is a spiritual discipline. It’s not just about losing a few pounds, wanting to live longer, or trying to look nicer."

Did you know that twenty percent of the population in every state in America is obese? And 50 million people worldwide will die this year from chronic diseases due to being overweight.

Your physical health is an important part of making your life count. I want to look at the right motivation for getting healthy – what God’s says about the importance of your body in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (NIV).

  1. God expects me to manage my body. “Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. …I will not be mastered by anything …” (verse 12). Your body is a gift from God. He loans it to you and it’s your responsibility to manage it well. What are you doing with what He’s given you?
  1. My body is God’s property. “The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord …” (verse 13). Our culture teaches us that we can do whatever we want with our bodies. But God created our bodies, so we don’t have a right to share them with anybody we want.
  1. My body will be resurrected after I die. “ … God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also” (verse 14). God never wastes anything. One day he’s going to resurrect a new version of your body.
  1. My body is connected to the body of Christ. “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?” (verse 15). God considers sins against the body to be in a special class because your body is connected to the body of Christ.
  1. The Holy Spirit lives in my body. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit … ?” (verse 19). Your body is God’s temple. If you were walking down the street and saw some gang vandalizing a church, you’d do something about it, right? When you don’t take care of your body, you are vandalizing God’s temple.
  1. Jesus bought my body on the cross. “You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (verse 20). If you want to know how much you’re worth, look at the cross. Jesus with his hands outstretched says, “This is how much you’re worth to me. You’re worth dying for.” You are infinitely valuable.

Keeping your body in shape is a spiritual discipline. It’s not just about losing a few pounds, wanting to live longer, or trying to look nicer. God created your body, Jesus died for it, the Holy Spirit lives in it, your body is connected to Christ, and it’s going to be resurrected one day. When it is, God’s going to hold you accountable for how you managed what he gave you.

Someone Noticed at Work Today

Aug 25, 2010

I was in the kitchen warming up my lunch and someone from another department asks, "are you losing weight or is it just my imagination..."  *LOL* that just made my day!

Check, Recheck - Wait, Really? Check Again!

Aug 20, 2010

8/20/10
Today I got on the scale - a little early, I usually try not to check until Mondays.  I lost 5 lbs.!!  After a 2 week stall, I am down 5 lbs.!!  Is my scale wrong?  Hmmm... it's pretty new, Taylor, shows all the % Fat and % Water, etc., it can't be broke!!  Off-on-off-on... same numbers - YES!!

My first fill is coming up on Monday, 8/23 (3 days).  I have felt I have been eating more than I should because lately I have been feeling so hungry (especially at 3-4pm); tummy starts growling, so I have a protein bar, or my protein drink.... I know if I didn't, I would be in trouble cooking dinner for the fam!!

I am still looking forward to my first fill so I can feel more satisfied.  I still can't believe I lost 5 lbs... I guess all the extra activity I put in over the last few weeks helped afterall!  A good sign to keep me motivated.

Gym Bound - Start 8/3/10

Aug 02, 2010

Well, I decided I'm going to try going to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays and do an Aquatic class on Saturdays.  *LOL* I had asked about the class and if I could just wear my shorts and t-shirt because you're not going to see me in a bathing suit at this point... they were fine with that so we will see how that goes.  I'm looking forward to it.  Since the surgery 7/20, I have been walking with my trusty pal, Brandi, for 30 minutes each morning, so now I feel I need to step it up.  I just hope I can wake up early enough for the cooler hours because I can't see myself going to the gym after work.

First Post-Op Follow-up Appt.

Jul 30, 2010

I went to the doctor this morning and also had an appointment with the dietitian.  I will begin eating solids on Monday, 8/2, yay!  I am happy about that.  It's still going to be all about right choices.  The doctor wants to give me my first fill in 3 weeks (8/27 is appt.) - is that soon?  It seems too soon to me.  Anyway, we'll see how it goes by then with the solids.  I may not need it...?  I am happy to report the GAS PAINS ARE GONE!  YES!

Everyone have a great weekend!

Gas Pains Go Away!

Jul 27, 2010

I still have them and will try the warm liquids when I get home.  I hope it works.  Who said to try tomato juice?  I read that on a post somewhere.  Like V8 or something?  Do I warm it up?

This picture was taken on our 25th anniversary dinner on a cruise to Mexico.  It's my husband Matthew and son, Daniel and myself:

Yikes, It's My Turn Tomorrow!!

Jul 19, 2010

I just wanted to say the last few days have been very exciting getting to know some people on OH.  I hope to continue to be on here to keep my motivation going.

Since my mom wants to 'take care of me' the first few day after surgery, I will be without internet and won't be able to post, unless from my phone and not sure if I'm capable -- or patient enough to do it.  I may try.  Anyway, I know the more active I am, the better it will be for my recovery.

New Surgery Date

Jul 16, 2010

Initially I was going to do the Gastric Bypass on my birthday 4/20/09, but they only took out my gallbladder and asked me to return in 18 weeks.  I was offered a job and couldn't ask for the time off so I opted to wait.

2010:  I've been working and now ready to do my procedure; however, I have changed my mind and opted for the Realize Band.  I like the fact that the recovery time is minimal and also, like I keep hearing and seeing, it's not as drastic or invasive of a procedure.

My surgery date is now 7/20/10... I am getting nervous, yet excited!!
