12 Years After

Nov 29, 2014

Its hard to believe it's been over 12 years since I had my surgery. I am so thankful for the tools I learned that have helped me maintain my healthy lifestyle. Many of the people who had RNY surgery at the same time I did have gained back over half if not all the weight they lost. It is very easy to give up and let the food cravings take over your life. I became lactose intolerant after the surgery and to this day have been unable to digest meat, bread and pasta but for me that's a good thing. It keeps me on the healthy path. I used to go through fast food places daily and eat the highest carb count available. It was a comfort addiction. Sweets and carbs made sated me and I didn't worry about other things. I still have comfort foods but in moderation. I buy one cupcake or one cookie instead of a dozen. I eat my protein first, do not drink liquids with my meals and exercise. I found a healthy lifestyle and live it everyday. I make good choices not all the time but the majority. Thank goodness I still have the capacity to dump with consumed sugar and still have hiccups when I have taken my last bite. Those are the little reminders that keep me in check. I keep fat pictures around to remind me of where I was not where I want to be. If you are struggling with the program take it one day at a time. If you crave something you shouldn't have find a subitute. 12 years ago finding low carb and low sugar foods and snacks was almost impossible. Now we have choices I can go to a restaurant or fast food place and get food I can eat. Food that's good for me. I love the fruits and vegetables and recipes I have that makes staying healthy possible. If you have strayed and are in sizes you are uncomfortable wearing. Evaluate your self take it a day at a time. Be proud of yourself for making the right choices. If you fall pick yourself up and start a new day.
