I have a magic number
Oct 04, 2010
I was speaking to my PCP office to set up a apt for DH, when I spontaneously asked it I could get a BP reading. I had not had my BP meds for 2 days by accident.I forgot to bring them when we went away for the weekend. So they said sure come on in. Well my BP was 128/70 YEA!!!!!! I hadn't been feeling to motivated to exercise yesterday until i heard those magic numbers
.Well need less to say I went to the gym doing the happy dance ( I wonder how many calories that burns LOL ) Even today I have a magic number over and nothing will get me down.
My gym has a Pilates machine-I think I'll get some infor about that.
I love my band.

Week one plus

I had my surgery last tuesday. The surgery went fine, recovery was tougher. I was in recovery from 4-7 pm. I was faily nauteous but the meds helped immediately with that. My surgical group also gave steriods(antiswelling), and heprin(antiblood clot). The next day I had the quick partial barrium swallow-(3 minutes if that) and then discharge home.
The private hospital room was huge=with a couch dh could sleep on Sine we have 2 kids at home , 17 and 11, he had to go home. My husband was sooooo awsume. I was very very hot in recovery and in the rooom- hubby went home brought DD and a Fan. I don't know how he got it past hospital maintance at 9 pm but he did and it was a god send.
I was hooked up to cardiac monitoring and 2 leads kept falling off, but the nurses were great about it. I would nap for a bit-have some ice chips, read a page or two then nap/ice chips/read again. Husband also managed to exchange a recliner that I received for Mothers day this year with a new recliner(old recliner spring falling off, bolt sheared off, back not staying up) Costco is utterly amazing making returns easy.
Today is Saturday and it is my 2nd mushy day.My DH, DS, and DD are at Wildwood beach. We went as a family 3-4 weeks ago and It was a blast. Since I have 2 open incisions still I know I shouldn't get sand in them. Also boardwalk fare would be to tempting right now. I think I will have a scrambled egg with cheese or some left over spinach/artichoke dip to mix in with it.
Have a great day-I already am.

check in tommorrow!!!!
Aug 16, 2010
At 1:45pm Icheck in for my lap band surgery!!!! It was supposed to be last Wednesday but at the 11th lour my PCP wanted a stress test. They could have put the leads on right then and there for I was majorly stressed. However the surgical froup found a cardiologist with an apt earlier than the PCP so I went with the surgicals group recommendation. All is Normal
. So tommorrow I check in. Now I'm part scarred 15 %, part excited 80 %, part hopeful 30 % (i know it's more than 100% but that's how it is. See you on the lossers bench tommorrow

Tommorrow I check in FOR MY LAP BAND !!!!!! It was originally scheduled for last wednesday but my PCP wanted a stress test. You should have just placed the leads on me then for i was STRESSED. However the surgeons office found a cardiologist with a appointment sooner than the PCP and everything is NORMAL
. So the rescheduled date is tommorrow. I'm a bit anxious, alot excited, part unbelieving, part very hopeful.

I found out yesterday that Insurance aproved me!!!!!
My surgical date is August 11th.
The timing is great because My son will have walked in his Graduation Ceremony August 5th. I have from now till August 11th to drop some pounds. Two weeks prior, my surgical group has everyone on a Optifast plan to shrink the fatty liver, prevent weight gain prior to surgery, and have good protein stores for healing post surgery. I'm over the moon right now.So what to have for breakfost? Good choices-scrambled eggs and salsa.

2nd nut visit
May 11, 2010
Wednesday May 12th
This am I have my 2nd nut class for the ( possible )supervised diet portion of my requirements. Thinking about the "lifestyle" change (almost said diet). I know that when i reduce my carbs that intense need for them dies down. Even though it is not required I will start the lifestyle change when the surgeons office submits the paperwork to the insurance co. This will make my liver even less fatty and prep me calorie wise for the OPTIFAST 2 week liquid diet that my program requires before surgery. Just like everyone else out there, it is sometimes hard doing all the requirement stuff with your real life. DD is home sick (yea not strep!!!) so I'll get the class taken care of while she sleeps and DH and DS are still home. Then its rushing back home to take DS (along with sick DD in the van) to school.
DH has been supportive so far. Hopefully the sleep apnea machine (picking up tommorrow) won't keep him awake.
Well time to motor.

Well I already talked about the sleep apnea-confirmed with the pulmonary md that is is the obstructive type. No mention of correcting my nose (I walked into a rock that my brother was throwing at my neighbor in my youth so my septum is definitely deviated.).So this coming thursday I meet with the durable medical equipment folks. Learn about the C-PAP machine and chose a mask. But during the past 6 weeks my bp has been climbing up and up. So now I have high bp to boot ;(. Started meds for it yesterday;( Strangly my vision seemed very clear. Now I'm home with dd who is sick again since last week. She has a fever, chills and had alot of stomack pain but was able to fall asleep.I take her to the md at 1 ish. Nothing is worse than when your family is ill. Last week the whole family was down thought we mainly were recovered. Just stragling coughing. Untill dd started having chills etc. She saw a new PCP last week who we will see again today.
My PCP made a addendum to his letter of support for my wls-adding the new bp dx.
So now I am still waiting for one more eval from Dr. David-meet with him next week and get his letter of support.
Now the question becomes do I wait for the 3rd month of supervised diet class or have the surgical group submitt the paperwork to the insurance company based on bmi, letters of support and the strength of the 2 co morbidities

I found out 2 days ago that I have severe speep apnea.
I know it's better to know and treat it now rather than find out 25 years from now like my dad. But it's still a bummer. I go back to the sleep lab saturday for the titration study. It will be another long night. I am like the princess and the Pea when it comes to winkles in my bedsheets, so the leads that they place on my calves as part of the study make me toss and turn to relieve the pressure even more than "normal".
I am awaiting the results from the psy component still.
Does anyone know if insurance places more emphesis on approving wls for folks who have a bmi above 40 and severe sleep apnea then without severe sleep apnea with all other documentation being the same?

I saw the nut this am.It was a one on one meeting. My bp was excellent (not part of the standard visit but I asked if they would take it) and I left that bp infor for my pcp. I received my letter from my PCP . It suported the necessity of my wls, it however didn't do it in the way the surgeons office believes the insurance company wants it. So since I am trying to be proactive ,I will be starting the 6 month supervised weight loss program even though they haven't said I need to. Has anyone else done this?Am I overreacting? I really really believe the wls would help me so much and this letter from my PCP is so vague that even the surgeons office isn't truely keen on it but has to use it. I just wish had received the PCP one day eariler because they had a class I could of gone to as month 1 for the 6 month supervised weight loss. I will go on the 14th if my dh can pick up my dd from school. Has anyone taken the 6 month supervised program and still been denied?
