I am very excited about the possibilities that await me on the post-op side. Well, the appointment with my PCP is scheduled for 01/27/06 - I hope that the referral is obtained without any trouble. This is a new Doctor and new insurance company for me. So far everything seems great. I called the insurance company yesterday to change my PCP and a human answered the phone! I couldn't believe it! I was honestly at a lost for words. I was expecting a machine to ask me if I want english or spanish. :-) I am not feeling very encouraged today about the approval for the surgery. I spoke with someone from Geisinger Health Plan and she informed me that there is only a 1% chance that I will be approved for the surgery. I didn't even call to ask questions about that. I called to simply find out if she could fax me a list of Bariatric Surgeons approved by the insurance. And to think how good I was feeling yesterday about this! *sigh* January 22, 2006 Last night when I was dicussing the surgery with my daughter she said "I don't want you to get skinny mommy" "You won't be squishy like you are now". It's hard for me to come up with a way of explaining it to her. I told her that I want to be more healthy and that I will still be "squishy". It's amazing the way children think. It's sweet too. :-) January 27, 2006 Today at 11 is the appointment with my PCP. I'm a little nervous that he won't give me a referral to the Gastro doctor. I don't know what I will do if he denies me the chance for this surgery. :-( Wish me luck! Well, I'm back :-) The appointment went well today. Whew! I don't know why I was so nervous. My PCP will be giving me a referral as soon as he talks to the doctor he wanted to send me to but that my insurance wouldn't cover. He stated that he will talk to him and get a referral to one of the doctors on my list that he feels comfortable with. Meanwhile, Dr. Palmer is sending me for a long list of blood work and wants me to think about having a sleep study done. I think I will wait to do that (I had one a few years ago). If the insurance compnany wants me to have it done before the approval, I will. January 28, 2006 This morning I went to have a bloodwork done. It was uneventful. :-) My wonderful husband went to the office supply store today and purchased a 4" binder for all the materials that I have been printing off the computer. The information that I have been able to attain will be of great benefit. I now know what I will do with the time I have between now and my surgery... READ! Have a great weekend! January 29, 2006 Wow, what a busy weekend! Working both Fri and Sat. Today my in-laws came over for dinner and games. My brother-in-law Pete was over as well. I asked my MIT if I could talk to her in private and I then discussed with her the surgery. I wasn't really surprised at her reaction. She was very excited for me and I know I will be able to count on her for support. What a blessing it is for me to have such a fantastic relationship with my family! January 30, 2006 Two great things to celebrate today... My good friend Kathy is celebrating her 2 year WLS anniversary AND I was able to talk to my Angel Erin today on the phone! I'm so damn excited! :-) January 31, 2006 I got a date for my first appointment with the surgeon. Feb 14, 2006!!!! Well, my picture was posted the other day and I must say... DAMN girl... you FAT! I hate pictures of myself, but I knew that putting it up will be of benefit to myself. It's nice to know that now everyone can put a face with my profile and posts. My husband will be going with me on the 14th to meet with the surgeon for the first time. We are so ready! February 14, 2006 We had the appointment today and it went great. I very much enjoyed the conversation the we had with Dr. Nik. I was glad to see how much I am apart of the preperations for the surgery. The next step is starting the 6 month diet and exercise program with my PCP and the other appointments to gain the approval... Here is where the journey truly begins! :-) February 20, 2006 I have an appointment today with my PCP to start the 6 month supervised diet and exercise program which is a requirement from the insurance company for approval... more to come. February 22, 2006 Well, my PCP has placed me on a 1600 calorie diet. 1600 CALORIES! That seems like a lot to me. He was being funny about the fact that we even have to do this, but I told him that I am willing to do whatever it takes and that is when he said, well, let's make pretty easy for you, and then told me that the diet would be 1600 carlories. He also said that he will give me all the necessary refferals that I need. I LOVE this journey! More to come. April 2, 2006 I feel as though I have lost my focus. The diet isn't going well at all. I am so hungry on it and it makes it hard to follow. I haven't lost any weight since I started but that is due to not really being on it. UGH! September 5, 2006 I am now covered under Jim's insurance and I will begin the process all over again. If there is anyone with advice on HIGHMARK PPO BLUE insurance, I would be happy to hear it! Until the next time... 
I am 36 years old and have been fat since I went thru puberty. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 years old and have every side affect of the disease. Well, it feels like I do most of the time. After many years and LOTS of money, I gave birth to a beautiful daughter. She is now almost 10 years old! I am married to Jim, the most wonderful supportive man I have ever met. The best part about him is that I know he loves me fat or not. What a amazing feeling!

I've been on the diet for officially 1 week. This is not as easy as I thought it would be. I am hungry! I am trying so hard to go without, but it sucks to be hungry! :-(
Tomorrow is my Psych evaluation... hope they find me not to be crazy! ;-)
July 20, 2006 - Well it has been over 6 months since I began this journey and it seems like I am not any closer than I was back in Jan. UGH! Jim has started a new job and his insurance has changed to Highmark PPOBLUE. I hope that this will be an easier insurance to deal with. Wish me luck!
