2 month post-op & doin' great
Jul 06, 2009
Well, it is now 9 weeks since I had my band (4/28). All is WONDERFUL! I didnt get my first fill on schedule because one of my incisions had a little infection. So, I had my first fill about at 8 weeks post op...on 6/29. they put in 3cc's. OOPS! too much. I had a hard week. Even grits were tough to do. Eggs were impossible. I went back this past Monday 7/6 and had 50% removed. MUCH better now. I have lost a total of 48 pounds. Gone from 308 to 260. 26 lbs of it all since the surgury...9 weeks worth. that averages .32 lbs per day. REALLY COOL! Going to Myrtle Beach 7/11 thru 7/18. It will be nice not worrying about the over fill. I am scheduled for another fill on 7/20. We'll see how I tolerate that one. I'll check back in a few.

D-Day is finally here :)
Apr 27, 2009
Tomorrow I "report for duty" at 5:30 AM and scheduled for surgery at 7:30. I have lost about 20 pounds on the pre-op diet the past 2 weeks. it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be...or been led to believe. I hsve a wonderfull and supportive wife...that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world. I understand the whole shrink-the-liver part, but also believe the about 50% of the diet is to get your head in the game! it worked. I am ready. Wish me well, and I will check back in after it's all said and done.

Started the 2-Weeker this week
Apr 14, 2009
I started the famous 2-week killer diet this Tuesday. It's only for 2 weeks...a sprint. So far, not so bad. Once my stomach realizes it isn't going to get anything, and quits cramping, all will be better. I am looking forward to the once-a-week small piece of meat. Maybe this Friday night! I go today for my final blood work. meet with the anesthetest, and final pre-op with Dr. Gersin. Come on 4-28!! :)

Approved! - OMG Now what?
Mar 24, 2009
Well, I finally finished the gauntlet of tests and even passed the psych eval :). Everything was submitted to insurance on 3/6/09 and I got the call I was approved for banding on 3/16. Yipee.... I begin the long awaited killer diet on 4/14 and surgury is scheduled for 7:30 AM on Tuesday 4/18. I started walking 1-2 miles (every day mind you!) on the treadmill back on 3/9 and have actually enjoyed it....that's a big deal for me. My wonderfull wife has been actively learning everything she can about the process and and buying the necessary protien drinks, bars, etc. I wanted to try them out now, so I will know what works and what won't work BEFORE I need them to survive. I'll be back in touch when I start the 2-week diet :(

I met the Doc yesterday...
Feb 11, 2009
Well, I had my first appointment with Dr. Gersen yesterday. I weighed in at 308.4 and a BMI of 40. We had long discussions about whether to choose band or bypass. Even so, I am still undecided. I'm now scheduled for a gauntlet of tests and appointments over the next month. If all gets done and BCBS approves me, I may be looking at surgery in late May/early June. I told them It had to AFTER the Indy500...I have great tix this year!! Please feel free to give me your advice to help me chooe band or bypass as well as anyother support you may want to share.
