~~7/27/06~~
I am 34 years old and have basically struggled with my weight my whole life. I am 5'9 and approx 330. I have been looking into having WLS since 2000. I lost my job and insurance so I had to put it on hold until 2005. I was going through the process again when I found out I was pregnant. Four miscarriages later I am going through the process again. I also found out I was diabetic Feb of this year.
On 7/16/06 I went to Barix clinic in Ypsilanti and met Dr Kole. I was very impressed with them but later found out I had to go to a center of excellence for my insurance company and unfortunately Barix is not one.
On 7/26/06 I went to CORI and met Dr Woods. I really like him and he said I would be a great candidate for the lap rny. I was so happy when he said I didnt have to lose any weight before hand LOL
I am waiting to get my letter from my PCP who has been absolutely terrific through this whole process. I went and had my psych eval and that sucked because the psychiatrist I went to is against WLS and is also a nutritionist so he is trying to get me to work with him as well. I am going to meet with him once more to get my letter from him, and that will be that. What a pain.
I also found out today that I tested positive for the h pylori bacteria and start my 2 week antibiotic treatment tomorrow. I am not sure what else that entails but I will update to let anyone who is reading this know. I will update as things change! Bye for now : )

Ok, after alot of investigating, I think I am going to nix the RNY surgery and go with the DS. I have made the orientation appointment on 9/14/06 to meet with Dr Foote at MMPC in Grand Rapids with is 150 miles away from me. SO I will update afterwards!

Well alot can change in 6 days. I am pretty sure things between me and my live in boyfriend are over. I am planning on moving back to Denver, CO on 8/25. I am really sad but I refuse to allow myself to settle with being treated any less than I deserve anymore. I keep hoping he will realize what he is about to lose, but I have to do what is right for me. There are no DS doctors in CO and the closest one my insurance will take, because of the whole "center of excellence" thing, is in SF. SF is my absolute favorite city in the whole world, so maybe this is a sign. I just wish it could have been a cheaper one LOLOL. I am sending my paperwork off to them today, so that they can submit it to my insurance company. I will update soon!

Not sure if I am heading to Denver for good or not, things are better with the "man", but anything can happen. Just in case I have my orientation at MMPC in Grand Rapids on 9/13. I will update again then. Still havent heard anything from SF Lap Assoc.

I dont understand men, and mine is ridiculous so I am focussing on me. Anyway, long time no write. I went to MMPC loved the surgeon Dr Foote, did not like the internist and the program fee for SF Lap Assoc was outrageous. Long story short, found a surgeon in Carmel, IN (Dr Inman) at St Vincents. She does the DS (Only open : ( )and takes my insurance. They are writing my letter to go to insurance in the next two weeks. Wish me luck!!
~~11/1/06~~
Talked with Colleen from Dr Inman's office and my letter was sent to insurance on the 30th. SO now I am going to wait 2 weeks and either call insurance or the surgeons office. God I can not wait!! Please please please let me be approved and have a January surgery date!! That would one of the best things that has ever happened to me!!

Alot has happened since my last entry. I am approved for the surgery but I have a lifetime cap of $7500. SO the surgeon said they would charge $7500 and then I would have to come up with $5000 out of pocket for the hospital. Upfront, not including what I may be billed after surgery. Uh yea I don't have that kind of money, so that surgeon is out. I really don' understand this cap thing and am not getting any help understanding it either. I talked with MMPC again and found out they are only allowed to bill $2500 to BC/BS so that helps me alot. I am going to continue the process with them and have to wait another week or so to go and have my labs done. I have to make sure all of the nicotine is out of my body first. Then I am going to meet with the surgeon and behavioralist. The worst part is I am now up to about 360. It seems since I have been on insulin I have gradually regained all of the weight I lost the past couple of years. I am even to the point of not wanting to take it anymore so I can at least go back down to 300. I feel lousy and am so ready for this nightmare to end!!

So alot of time has passed since my last entry and alot has happened. I moved back home to Denver and left my boyfriend in MI. I have a new job and new insurance (Cigna) and I am hoping I can get the surgery through them. Wish me luck!! I am also wondering if anyone knows of a DS surgeon closer to Denver than Nebraska.....
