From Theresa: I had my surgery (gastric bypass) on June 10th. All went well with the
surgery and I was discharged from the hospital on June 12th. After a few weeks I started feeling rather poor and made several
calls and trips to my doctor. He assured me that the pain and burning I was having in my tummy was just surgical pains, and that it would go away within a few weeks. Well, the pain never went away, matter of fact, it increased.
On Tuesday, July 9th, I woke up and thought to myself THIS IS NOT NORMAL! I felt really bad, no energy, weak, and overall horrible. I somehow drove myself to the doctor's office and demanded that he see me. He sent me for an upper GI and some lab work and told me to call the next day for my results.
THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS THAT NIGHT. OH NO I
HAVE GOT TO THROW UP came over me. I jumped up and made the mad dash to the Restroom ... only to throw up blood. Kenny called the doc and
off to the hospital we went.
After seeing almost every doc there, they finally called in the EDG team to
go down my throat ................ the finding ................ ULCER, AND A
HUGE ONE AT THAT!
My blood pressure was so low, all my labs were off the scale ............. my
family was told that I was in serious condition and that they were taking me to ICU and that if I lost much more blood .......... well, it would be surgery time. Thank GOD that never happened.
Wednesday morning I was taken to the small surgery room, where they inserted a PICC line (central line) ........... so that I could get all the necessary fluids, meds, food, and all the other good things into my system, since I
already had 2 I V's (one in each hand).
I was moved to a regular room on Friday the 12th and finally discharged from the hospital on Friday the 19th WHAT AN ORDEAL
The doc assures me that the ulcer had nothing to do with my surgery. I am now home with I V (TPN) fluids. I have a home health care nurse that
comes everyday .... so ...... doing better. However, still not 100%. BUT, I do think that I am out of the woods. PLEASE SEND YOUR PRAYERS OUT TO THERESA.
