Well, I'm home and doing fine. Surgery went very smoothly. California Pacific Medical Center is a wonderful hospital. Everyone was very supportive. My surgery was actually performed by John Rabkin, not Robert (his brother), because they moved it up. He's an excellent surgeon and I felt very confident going in. I've been very lucky in terms of pain. I was in pain for the first 24 hours but it was well controlled with the morphine PCA. By day 2 I didn't need morphine. They were giving me a non-narcotic pain med by IV and I didn't need to ask for any additional med. I was up and walking the first night. On the second day when I was off the catheter, PCA & IV (just had a central line for IV meds)I took several walks around the floor unassisted and even climbed some stairs with the physical therapist. Getting onto solid food was a little scary but I took it slow and didn't have any major problems. Now before I sound too much like Little Mary Sunshine, I did experience some mood swings and got a little weepy a few times. I was released on Monday and was both excited and scared about going home so soon. I've felt well for the most part but again there have been some mood swings. Thank God I haven't had any problems with nausea or much cramping, just a little reflux one night. I feel so blessed because I know that many people have a much harder time. That's it for now.
