Hi Vicki, and I sympathize totally with your fear of IV sticks. I have always had the same awful problem even when I was thinner years (and years) ago. When I had my RNY this past June 30, I did not hesitate to firmly request a subclavian IV (just below your neck). They told me that it was unusual to have a subclavian for this surgery, something I really don't understand because we hefty folks usually ARE difficult IV sticks), but the anesthesiologist put one in for me anyway. Let me tell you, it was WONDERFUL not to have to worry about having my IV restarted during the 4 days of my hospital stay. It was WONDERFUL that the RNs could draw blood samples for labwork from my subclavian. And of course IV fluids and pain pump medicines went in flawlessly as well. It did not bother me having the subclavian and I hope you will discuss having one yourself with your doctor and mainly your anesthesiologist. It sure made my hospital stay a lot more pleasant. :) Good luck as your DAY draws near. I shall be looking for your future posts and updates. HUGS

Vicki, Congrat's on getting your date, the 18th is right around the corner. Sorry to hear of your Mother's passing, I lost minein 97 and I would gve anything to have her here now and be able to see me finally having a healthier, slimmer life, but God called another Angel home. She was my biggest fan and like your Mother loved me no matter what size I was,I know she and your Mother would both be so proud. Take care and know you have many Angels watching over you. Keep us updated on your progress.

Hello Vicki - I know how you feel, my brother (who was 9 months and 2 weeks older then me) passed away and I remember the day I finally got approved I wanted him to be there to celebrate with me. BUT, I found such an inner peace in knowing that I had a real live angel watching over me. When I went into the operating room I wasnt even nervous, because I knew Bobby "WAS" there and I know your Mom will be there for you. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date! You'll find the changes that follow, nothing short of a miracle. For 20 years I prayed and hoped for a "second chance" in life to be healthier and thinner - I never thought I would get that chance, but I did, and now so will you. My humble advice? Walk as much as possible after surgery. As your body begins to heal make sure to get in your protein, even if it means plugging your nose and chugging back the protein drinks in baby [pouch] gulps. Vitamins need to be chopped, minced or crushed... whatever it takes to get them in daily, no exceptions, YOU are worth it. Also, let's not forget your new best(est) friend, water. It is SO important to get your minimum 64 oz in daily. One final thing, remember to CELEBRATE all the special moments along the way, big or small. Too many people focus on the number, ie. pounds lost. There are so many "moments" to look forward to and to embrace along the way - don't let any of them slip by. Enjoy your new healthier life, you've earned it!! Hugs and smiles -
