Debbie-Have you tried writing your own letter and then taking it to your PCP and asking them to read over and if they agree, just sign it. That may help speed things up. If you have no takers for angels in your area, I'll be glad to volunteer.

hi Debbie, My PCP when making the referal for the surgeon, has to be thorough, and list every co-morbidity he knows and a history of weight for the last 5 yrs. It took his nurse a week just to go through all my files, then my PCP had to dictate the letter, then send it off to his typist. It took forever and a day! Well needless to say after all that, I now need a NEW referal as the surgeon I had chose initially has moved. <sig> Patience is a virtue, and I'm sure your PCP wants your referal to be complete, it helps when it goes for approval from your insurance co. Hi Deb! Keep picking up the phone and stay on thier heels, don't let them forget that you're there. Remember the phrase the squeaky wheel gets the grease? I mean don't be obnoxious, just persistant, sweet and kind. Oh another thing, reading your profile... I too am 43 and the same weight 277 that was at the time of my consult I may be up a little from there, I was born and raised in Florida, Pensacola to be exact. I have no childen though, it must be tough on you with an 11 year old to support alone. (Assuming the older two are on their own). I wish you success in obtaining those referrals. What I did was just go to my doctors offices and got copies of my medical records. That in and of itselfe revealed all my insurance company needed to know. Good Luck! Leslie
