Well, I am home from the hospital and finally feeling good enough to take a few minutes to post on here. I am in a decent amount of pain in the incision area due to my cut being kinda high onto my diaphram, at least that is what the Dr. says.. LOL I was scheduled to have Lap and then 3 days before surgery my Dr. converted to "mini" open. Open surgery with ONE cut about 3 inches long. Okay, fine.. well come surgery time my liver ended up being very large so he had to enlarge the cut to about 5 inches instead. I am a little dissappointed as now my healing time will be longer and the scar Much bigger. But at least I am done. Some people post their surgery story so here is mine.... Got to hospital at 9:30 am on Wednesday, checked in and was taken to the preop area by 10:00. I started to change and realized they gave me the tiny gown. WHy oh why would they give someone have gastric bypass the tiny gown? Anyway, Gary tracked someone down and got me a larger gown. Changed and they came in to do IV. Now she says my SIL and friend can come in and say bye with my husband so Gary goes to get them. While he is gone the anesthiolgist comes to take me for the epidural. I paniaced because I did NOT want to go to surgery without a kiss from Gary. She says, he can come in after we are done with the epidural. Just as we are wheeling out he comes in and gives me a hug and kiss. So we go in they give me the Versed to relax me and then proceed with the epidural. Wow, now that is a painful process.. She hit the wrong spot with that thing and my leg started twitching. Anyway, finally got it done and no one would go get Gary. I was pretty angry about that and so was he. Thank GOD we were able to see each other before they wheeled me in there. Got wheeled into the OR, moved onto the little table and strapped down with my arms out to my side. The last thing I remember is Dr. Macatol asking if I wanted to fly to Jamaica or Aruba.. LOL I choose Jamaica and I was gone. Next thing I remember is waking up in recovery with my tube still in and an INTENSE pain coming from my stomach. I started to moan and they came and knocked me out again. The next time I woke up the tube was gone and I heard the two nurses talking about me saying my recovery time was taking kind of long, probably cuz they knocked me out to take out the tube. So they took me up to my room and came to find out it was 7:30. My surgery had gone 5 hours instead of 2 1/2 because of my liver and then 1 1/2 hours in recovery. According to my SIL Gary was worried sick when the surgery went so long.. My poor baby. :( They didn't even try to get me up the first day, I was in so much pain. They gave me lots of drugs that put me alot out of it and I slept through most of the first night. I ended up being discharged late on the third night. They almost didn't discharge because I was not able to urinate. The took the cath out midday Friday and by 7 I still hadn't been able to go. They ended up straight cathing me to get it all out and released me, telling me if I didn't go in 8 hours to go to the emergency room. I did end up going about 5 hours later, so all is well that way.. LOL So, now I am home and recovering slowly. Coughing kills me and laughing don't feel to good either. I am positive all will get better though, so I am plugging along. I totally look forward to that 30 CC's of water every hour though, let me tell you. LOL As far as diet, I am still on water and ensure until I see the Dr. next week and then I am sure I will be put on more stuff. Anyway, if you managed to read all this, thanks and if you are preop, I hope it helps at all. I will say, it IS worse than I thought it would be, probably because I have never had any surgery or any kind, but it is livable.
