04/20/03 At this point I am a little discouraged. Remember I am self pay. So I broke down and contacted Dr. Aguirre in Mexico. *WOW* what a quick response, I emailed him on a Sunday evening and by Monday afternoon I had a response from him. Which is more than I can say for Dr Gibb's office, they never returned my e mail, I had to call them, leave a message, wait 4 days for a call back. Then wait 10 days for the packet of information they wanted me to fill out. Dr. Aguirre said that he had openings in May if I wanted one. Well, I am going to wait till this summer...My biggest problem is coming up with the money, I am an heir to my grandmother's estate, however, it was supposed to be settled by end of April and now it's looking more like the end of June. So I am awaiting that money before I even set a date. Like I said I am still in the *wait and see mode* however, I AM going to have the surgery, but I haven't set a date. Gina McCarthy

04/01/03 Today I called Dr. Gibbs office and left a voice message for his assistant/nurse Tina. I have received nothing but wonderful e mails from everyone about Dr. Gibbs. So I hope she calls soon. I am very anxious to get started. Keeping in mind that I got another e mail from another lady stating that she is going to have Dr. Gibbs do her surgery as well and the total cost for was $17,900. WOW what an increse from the $13,00 that I was originally anticipated. Gina

03/30/03 I have not made any post yet, but I am going to begin my journey. I have done lots of research with the help of various web sites. I have contacted an attorney that specializes in representing WLS patients to see if they can help me fight my insurance company. Now all I need to do is fill out the paperwork that they sent me. I contacted the law offices of Walter Lindstrom at www.obesitylaw.com. They e mailed me a packet of paperwork to fill out along with their fee schedule. They also sent a very well worded letter to help me better understand the way they assess their fees. They have two options: #1 Appeal letter for a fixed for of $450, they conduct an analysis of my medical and insurance info that I have to provide, Prepare a letter to the ins. co or insurance dept, and then follow up by telephone with the ins. co as needed to uphold or reverse the denial. OR Option #2 Full Appeal Services for a fixed for of $850...this option contains much more services. This is just a brief overview of the process. So e mail them if you want more extensive information. I am also batteling with the prospect of seeking the surgery with Dr. Aguirre in Ensanada, Baja Calif. or Dr. Gibbs in Arkansas. I have sent an e mail to the Dr. in Arkansas, but no response. I also found out through other support groups that he is not "hip" on returning e mail inquires, that it is best to call him.
